James Walton Townsend, was born in Somers Point, New Jersey on May 31, 1929, and passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2017. He was a resident of San Antonio, Texas, for 38 years.
James was the child of Armenia Risley and Allen Townsend of Absecon, New Jersey, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dr. June Townsend Amalie, from Bethesda, Maryland. James is survived by two sons In New Jersey, James E. Townsend and Andrew A. Townsend and three grandchildren.
In San Antonio, Texas, he is survived by his spouse, Gloria R. Townsend and family, Anthony G. Reyna, Michael E. Reyna and spouse, Cindy, and Vincent P. Reyna and spouse, Allison. He has seven grandchildren, four boys and three girls.
James graduated from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. He served the Navy, during the Korean war, on the Cimarron Class Oiler Fleet Ship, USS Aucilla (AO-56). After his discharge in 1953, he worked with Phillips Petroleum and Mellon bank in Pennsylvania. In San Antonio, Texas, he worked and retired from USAA. He enjoyed singing in different choir groups and was active with the Silver Buckets Choir at University Methodist Church. He will be greatly missed and remembered.
