Charles “Chuck” Richard Seel , 33, died January 29, 2018 in Okinawa, Japan. He was born November 6, 1984 to Kate Seel Marquis at Brooke Army Medical Center, on Fort Sam Houston outside of San Antonio, Texas.
On July 15, 2005, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and spent twelve and a half years serving as an incredibly dedicated and gifted Corpsman. During Charles' first years of service and between deployments, he finished his Baccalaureate of Science in Psychology and went on to complete a Master of Science in Psychology. To those with whom Charles served, he was more than just a Doc: he was a guardian, a brother, and a friend. He commanded respect, loyalty, and love without any personal desire for others' gratitude or indebtedness. Charles was a man of many passions and found great joy in learning and sharing what he learned with others and throughout his life he showed a dedication, meticulousness, and commitment to the highest of standards not often seen in one so young. Yet, as notable a sailor and senior enlisted officer as Charles was, he was an even more outstanding father; he found his greatest joy in spending time with his children. Charles was filled with a joi-de-vivres that was nearly contagious and while our hearts are broken with the loss of a truly unique, funny, kind, and loving soul, we can find some measure of comfort not only in the many wonderful memories we have of him but in the legacy his very spirit, integrity, and honor leaves, not only to those who loved him but more importantly, to those he loved.
Charles is survived by his wife Vanessa, sons Johnathan Seel and Brian Andrew Morris, brothers Christopher Seel and Harvey Marquis III, mother Kate Seel Marquis, aunts Irene Seel and Catherine Cassidy-Turner, Great-Aunt Jane Cassidy-Aguilar, cousin James Turner, nephew Devan Seel, and nieces Elora and Alana Seel, and Evalynn and Ashlyn Marquis, in addition to many relatives, friends, colleagues, and brothers- and sisters-in-arms.
