Alan Jay Bennett, 83, passed away in death on January 8, 2020. He was born on April 4, 1936 in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his father Lester Bennett, his mother Katheryn Bennett, his brothers Fred Welge and James Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Shirley Bennett. He is survived by his brother Jerold Bennett, his sister Eugenie Denny, daughter Wilma Strickland and son-in-law Larry Strickland, his son James Bennett and daughter-in-law Emmie Bennett. Alan is also survived by six grandchildren: Naomi Strickland, Valerie Strickland, James Strickland, Sarah Garcia, Presley Bennett, and Michaela Bennett. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren Vivian Strickland and Violet Strickland, plus numerous nephews and nieces. Alan was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized on July 13, 1968 and was a faithful servant of Jehovah for over 50 Years. He attended the North, Lullwood, Poteet, and Central Park congregations, serving as an elder for many of those years. Alan enjoyed sharing his Bible based beliefs with others and had an amazing resolve to live his life according to God’s principles. Alan worked many years as a mechanic with City Public Service. He also worked with his son James as a locksmith. Alan had many varied interests in his life. He loved music, whether it was listening to it or playing it. He was especially skilled with his hands and would always stay busy working on many projects like fixing cars and building musical instruments. He was a cowboy at heart, collecting cowboy and country memorabilia, movies, and music. John Wayne movies and Willie Nelson songs were his favorite. Alan was also very interested by family history. He spent many hours researching his family tree, archiving information about his family. He had an appreciation for old and classic cars. During his lifetime, he owned many vehicles and he could tell you a story about each one he owned. Alan developed many friendships with people and loved his friends dearly. He loved to hunt with Lee Wright, talk with Marty Moore, and visit with this brother Jerry. Whether you knew Alan as Dad, Poppy, Brother Bennett, or friend, he touched many lives. Alan particularly treasured the hope of the coming of God’s Kingdom and the promised resurrection of the dead. He longed for the day when he would be reunited with his beloved wife, Shirley. His family now looks to the time we’ll be all be together in God’s paradise Earth. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 9750 Eagle Crest Blvd., San Antonio, TX, 78239.
