Archie "AB" Ben Walter

Archie Ben Walter, Sr., was born on June 25, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas to the late William Walter and Virginia Hayes Walter. He was the last of nine children, which have all proceeded him in death. Archie grew up in Beaumont, Texas where he graduated from Herbert High School. His family later moved to San Antonio in 1949. He later married Maggie Bryant on January 17, 1953, They were the proud parents of two daughters, Helen Walter Garcia and Marilyn E. Walter. He later married Doris Maxine Walter on March 20, 1971, and to this union three children, Archie Walter II, Andrea Walter Matney and Audie Walter were born. Archie professed salvation, giving his life to Christ, leading his family to join Childress Memorial Church of God In Christ under the late pastorate of Bishop T.D. Iglehart. There his family was very active and ardent supporters of the ministry, so much so that Archie became on the of lead Deacons in the Church. Deacon Walter served in all capacities, on the Trustee Board, Finance Board, Brotherhood Ministry and in any other capacity needed. He served as a faithful member under the transition of the Church being renamed Praise Cathedral and to his current Pastor, Bishop S.E. Iglehart. As a profession, Archie ran a successful paving business for over forty years. He also purchased and sold cattle. His favorite attire was a starched shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a white cowboy hat, or a three piece suit for church. Deacon Walter is preceded in death by his parents William and Virginia Walter, his loving wife Doris Maxine, and other family members to include, Elgie Walter, Mildred Laday, William Aster Walter, Leo Walter, Theo Smith, Irene Clay, Doris Walter and Tristan Collier. He is lovingly survived by Uncle, Cleavand Walter; daughters, Helen Walter Garcia and her husband Tony Garcia of Seguin, Marilyn Walter of Seguin, Andrea Matney and her husband Marshall Matney; sons, Archie Walter, II of New Braunfels and Audie Walter; nephew, Raymond Clay, Jr.; Godson, Anthony Burke and six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

  2. I knew Archie all the years he was in the asphalt paving business. He always approached his business with a happy and positive attitude smiling and having good things to say about everyone. Living in the country all my life except when I joined the Navy My mother Doris Maxine Walter and my father Archie B Walter taught all the things in life I need to know from driving at the age of 7 years old , driving tractors, lawnmower,trucks and equipment I would have never learn anywhere else if it wasn’t for them I learn how to bale hay,cut grass,fix water pipe leaks,fish,hunt,change oil,fix flats, operate a paver,roller loader, water truck,motor grader,bobcat,backhoe,rake asphalt, shovel asphalt roll asphalt,ride a horse,fix fence ,haul hay,replace sewer line,use a chainsaw, and last but not least BBQ Maxine would me on Fridays to go catch some fish in our pond so we could have dinner I would catch the fish but momma would clean them and cook them Bass Catfish And perch It was a honor and blessing to realize that my father had bought those 100 acres then at that time for less than $100,000 and had the mind to build a house that has been standing. For over half a century 50 years + God is a awesome God I know all this would not have been possible without Maxine Walter and of course the ALMIGHTY GOD HIMSELF!!!! God makes no mistakes!!
