Arthur Mae Brown

“There is an open gate at the end of the road through which each one must go alone; And there is a light we cannot see, our Father claims his own. Beyond the gate our loved ones find happiness and rest; And there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.” Arthur Mae Brown, lovingly known as Gussie, was born on October 4, 1930, in Gonzales, Texas. She was raised in a Christian home and baptized at an early age. She was the youngest of Kate Robinson’s six children. Arthur attended Gonzales public schools and went on to have a rewarding career in the culinary field. She was known far and wide for being a wonderful cook and relished preparing meals for family and friends. Arthur was very outspoken and candid, but also loving with a grand sense of humor. She was extremely proud of her family and always willing to lend a helping hand. She was intelligent, caring, thoughtful and never missed sending a card for any and all occasions – large or small. In addition, she was a great storyteller of our family history. She was well known throughout her community and commanded respect wherever she ventured. Her community respected her and knew they could count on her friendship. Her memories will continue to live on in the hearts of every life she touched. Arthur was preceded in death by her mother, her sister, Mable Johnson, and her brothers Hugh Robinson, James Price, Walter Price and Robert Polk. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two loving sons, Clyde (Patricia – deceased) Stevens and James (Jessie) Price; grandsons James Tealer, Thomas Tealer, Willy Ray Tealer, and Clyde Stevens Jr.; and granddaughters Linda Kay Tealer, April Price, and Krystle Diane Stevens; and a host of special nieces, nephews, family and friends. Now that the Lord has called her home, we say goodbye to a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was most definitely “one of a kind”.
