Beverly A. Woods

On February 13, 2020, Beverly A. Nelson Woods at 73 years of age, went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by her daughter and her son-in-law. She fought a good fight and now she has finished her course. Beverly was born on February 4, 1947 to the parentage of John Nelson and Gloria Lee Nelson in San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by both parents,; her beloved son, Garland J. Woods; her ex-husband, Samuel L. Woods; her granddaughter, Shayla Carter; her brother, Barron Nelson, her sister, Yvonne Nelson; and her longtime companion, Bill Collins (Chilly Willie). Her persona was her beautiful, contagious smile. Her nickname was B.W. While growing up, she attended Wheatley School and Healy Murphy High School. Later in life, she became employed at Datapoint Corporation and remained in their employ for twenty-five years as a Computer Tech Supervisor. After retiring from Datapoint Corporation, she started management with her companion (Chilly Willie) at the Mustang Lounge. It was there that she really began to enjoy and live her life and her hobbies: cooking, playing pool, and playing darts. She was captain of—The Mustang Lounge Pool & Dart Team, Prime Time Pool & Dart Time, and Tyler’s Lounge Dart Time. Beverly loved taking road trips with her teams. She did private duty work, taking awesome care of the elderly sharing her amazing love, care, and support to her patients and her own family members. Beverly loved her three children unconditionally. She was their protector and she made sure that all three of them graduated from high school and she provided all three of them means for them to purchase their first car. As a single mom, her children didn’t want for anything. They were all “Spoiled”. She was #1 sport’s mom by attending, supporting, and cheering every game and event that they participated in. The same love and support was given to her grandchildren. Beverly accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at King Solomon Baptist Church by Rev. Butler. She later united with Lilly of the Valley Baptist Church under Rev. Woods. In the later stages of her life, Beverly wanted to be close to her daughter and decided to unite with Wheatley Heights 1st Baptist Church, under Rev. L. A. Williams, Jr, where her daughter was a member. Beverly truly loved the Lord and that love shined through every introduction and interaction that she had, but there was no greater love than the love that she had for her children and her family. She was known to be a helper to the community. Everyone that she connected with was guaranteed to get two warm things - A Smile & A Hug. One of the most impressive things about her was her ability to show genuine love to everyone that she met. Beverly is survived by her two children; George D. Woods and Stephanie Woods-Gibbons; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Woods; her son-in-law, Dorian S. Gibbons; her sisters, Jackie Nobles, Denise Matthews, and Genise Nelson, and her brothers, Jon Anson Nelson and Darryl Nelson; her ten grandchildren, Garland Woods, Jr., Alexis Woods, LaTreila Woods, LaGeorgia Woods, LaGloria Woods, George Woods, Jr., Samuel Woods, Mercedes King, Jessica Bryan, and Antawana Richardson; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and special friends. Beverly was the glue that kept her children and grandchildren together and she will be dearly missed. “No more Thanksgiving Dressing” LOL. We know that she is smiling and shining in heaven looking down on all of us!
