Charles E. Culberson November 21, 1938 ~ February 15, 2021 Charles “Little C” Culberson was born to Carter Lorenza Culberson and Vivian Inez Culberson on November 21, 1938 in Luling, Texas. He departed this life on February 15, 2021. Charles attended public school at Rosenwald in Luling,Texas where he received a formal education and graduated in 1957. In high school he excelled in football (playing quarterback), basketball, and baseball. However, it was in high school that Mrs. White, his former music teacher, discovered he could sing. She encouraged him to sing in the church and high school choir. In high school Charles competed at the state level three times. As a high school senior, Charles won the 12A state solo championship, by singing “I Believe." Charles never missed a day of school from first through the 12th grade. After graduating from high school, Charles attended St. Phillips Jr. College where he took several night classes while working full time at Trinity University. Charles professed his life to Christ at an early age. In Luling, he was a member of William Taylor Methodist Church, and when he moved to San Antonio he attended Big St. Paul Methodist Church. While attending Big St. Paul, he joined the City Choir. In 1965 he became a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his passing. Charles was a Deacon and thoroughly enjoyed leading Wednesday Nights Prayer Meetings and singing in the choir. After leaving Trinity University, he went on to work for H.E.B.'s Warehouse as a supervisor and retired after 20 plus years. After his retirement from HEB, he decided to work for the City of San Antonio and retired after 10 more years. While working for the City, he decided to work part time at Casa Rio's Restaurant on the Riverwalk for 7 years. He continued his employment at Casa Rio until March 2020. Charles was a dedicated Spurs and Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved sports! When he visited his daughter in Houston, he attended his grandson (Jaylen's) high school and AAU basketball games, as well as his granddaughter (Kyla's) track meets and Taekwondo tournaments. While visiting California, he attended his nephew (Richard's) basketball games and his niece (Danielle's) softball games. Then, when they had kids that participated in sports he was right there along with their parents watching them. Charles touched many lives; he never met a stranger. He loved to travel and made many trips to California to visit his mother, sister and her family. Charles was united in marriage to Pansy Ruth Taylor on August 28, 1965 and to this union one daughter (Andrea Denise Culberson-Jean) was born. In August of 1987 Charles and Karen Kay Culberson united in marriage and became a stepfather to Brian, Tonya and Paul (deceased). Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Karen Kay, his loving daughter and son in law, Andrea and Chad, two grand kids Jaylen and Kyla. Charles was also blessed with several bonus grandchildren and great-grand children, a loving sister Addie (Ray), nephew Richard (Shea), niece Danielle (Gabe), three great nieces (Bailey. Brooke, Darianna, one great nephew Jonathan and a host of several relatives and dear friends. We would like to thank everyone for your love, support, and prayers during this time of bereavement. 2. Addie and Family, I just wanted to reach out again to say how sorry I am to hear about the death of your brother. I am glad that you were by his side along this final voyage of what we call life. I know that geographics and the pandemic were obstacles, but nevertheless you were with him and his family in spirit. May God keep you strong during this time of loss. May you continue to make a difference for your immediate family and all those who hold you in their hearts as “family.” You are the best. Lyndell, Billy and Mike
