Dennis Drake Mays September 29, 1950 – October 7, 2021 Dennis Drake Mays passed away at the age of 71 at 2:09a.m. on Thursday October 7th, 2021 after a brief illness. Dennis was born on September 29, 1950 at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was the son of the late Adeline Joy (Bauer) Mays. Dennis was Adeline’s only child. Dennis was a member of Highland Park Lutheran Church for many of his childhood and teen years. Dennis was also a member of The American Legion Alamo Post #2 for many years. Dennis met the love of his life Kathleen Wilkins at Whittier Junior High when he was 14 years old. Dennis and Kathy attended Edison High School. Dennis was a member of the Automotive Shop program. Dennis and Kathy were married on March 3, 1972 at Highland Park Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX. They were blessed with two daughters Karen Denise and Kristina Elaine Dennis worked for Southwest Research Institute in their engine testing facility and was a bus mechanic for VIA. His love of cars led him to own his own automotive repair garage for many years. Dennis was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being down at the coast. He and Kathy fell in love with Rockport TX where they purchased a weekend home in Copano Cove. Their family made so many wonderful memories there. Dennis was happiest when he was near the water. He is preceded in death by his mother Adeline Joy (Bauer) Mays. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Kathleen Mays, Daughter Karen Denise Williams and husband Michael. Daughter Kristina Elaine Denham and husband Brandon. Granddaughters Mikaelyn Kathleen Williams and Kamdyn Elaine Denham. Grandsons Callen Michael Williams and Wade Garrett Williams. Dennis was always willing to help anyone and he never knew a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all. “If others wonder why I’m missin’, just tell them I went fishin’” ~ Delmar Pepper

You always had a big smile on your face. I know how much you loved all of us and your love will live on everyday! Thanks for being my dad and one day we will meet again.
