James E. “Bunny” Waiters Sr.
James E. Waiters Sr. AKA Bunny was born August 11, 1932 to Samuel and Vivian Waiters in San Antonio, TX. His parents proceeded him in death, as well as his siblings, Samuel Jr., Earline, Aaron Waiters Sr. and his son Melvin Waiters.
He accepted Christ at Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX. He lived with his paternal grandparents, Hopson Pink and Phillis Waiters on their farm in Seguin, TX where he attended Whitfield Elementary School. He continued his education in San Antonio, TX where he attended Douglas Junior High and he graduated from Phillis Wheatly High School in 1951.
He served in the United States Air Force at Iwo Jima Island (Island in Ogasawara, Tokyo, Japan). He received a Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.
Following his active service in the military, he attended St. Phillips Community College where he received a certification in Tailoring. He continued to express his talents through his love for baseball and played for the Kelly Field Brown Bombers, a minor league Negro Baseball team under The South Texas Negro League.
James then landed a new opportunity working for the San Antonio Housing Authority in 1953 serving for 43 years, retiring in 1996. While working for San Antonio Housing Authority, he also worked part-time parking cars at the San Antonio Country Club for over 40 years as well.
James is survived by his wife Ruth Ella Sanders Waiters, his children Mamie Harrison (Connie Roy), San Antonio, TX, Mary Bowens (Charles) San Antonio, TX, James Etta Hunt, Dallas, TX, Doris A. Robinson, Ogden, UT, Vivian M. Frank (Tony), Ogden, UT, Beverly Adams (Fred), Norman, OK, Calvin E. Waiters (Venida), San Antonio, TX, James E Waiters Jr. (Bonnie Brown), Ogden, UT, Frederick Butler Sr. (Sandra), Houston, TX, Harold Butler Sr.(Doris), Houston, TX, Corean Carpenter (Rev. Dwayne), Texas City, TX, Alvin Butler Sr.(Brenda), San Antonio, TX, Melvin Waiters (deceased) Porchia, San Antonio, TX, Aunt Maude Waiters, Houston, TX, Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, Great-Great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

His Spanish speaking friends called him “CONEJO” Spanish for rabbit.
