James William Breeding

August 22, 1941 June 11, 2015 James William Breeding, age 73, was called to his eternal home on Thursday, June 11, 2015. He was the descendant of a south Texas pioneer family with a foothold in the mercantile business. He was the son of Marguerite Bell Spindle and James Herbert Breeding, retired Encinal postmaster and prominent ranching and farming family in Webb and La Salle Counties. Known by his family and friends as Jimmy, he was born at the old Mercy Hospital in Laredo, Texas on August 22, 1941 and was a graduate of Cotulla High School in 1959. James attended Trinity University between 1959 and 1968, taking time off to help tend to the family ranch. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science with a Business Administration emphasis in 1968. Mr. Breeding was an innovative and poised individual who showed his dedication and honesty by holding past positions as President of the Encinal Lions Club, Director of the Webb County Beef Improvement Association, member of the Cotulla Masonic Lodge, member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors, member of the Laredo Board of Realtors, member of the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Charter Member of the Beef Cattleman Association, member of the Trinity University Bengal Lancers, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. James was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite S. and James H. Breeding, brother Billy H. Breeding, and granddaughter, Jordann A. Rogers. He is survived by children Mozelle M. Breeding, Christopher H. Breeding, and Brandy A. Breeding; grandchildren Emma R. Jackson, Reagan L. Breeding, and Ashlynn M. Smith; sister Janice B. (Dale) Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass with ashes at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78230. He will be laid to rest at the family plot in Encinal, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to SAMMinistries or St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will have a gathering for food and fellowship in St. Matthew's Parish Hall.
