Julio Gutierrez Palomo

julio palomo
Julio G. Palomo, born October 18, 1933, loving husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and son, Julia B. Palomo and Armando (Bebe) Palomo. Through the years, Julio’s grandchildren would bring their friends over, and he became “gramps” to them all. He attended all his grandkids and great grandkids events, no matter what they were; he was always their biggest fan. Julio is survived by his son Richard Palomo and daughter in law, Becky Palomo (personal assistant), his daughter, Norma Guerrero and Mike Medina. He leaves his grandchildren who loved him very much and whom he adored: Salina and Neal Scott, Melissa Palomo and Marissa Muniz, David Palomo, Yvonne Palomo, Paul Palomo and Angelica Deleon. His greatest treasure were his great grandchildren, Ezra Scott, Zayn Scott, and Aliah Palomo (mamas). Julio leaves numerous family members including his sister Esther Palomo Guevara and friends who will miss him dearly. There are so many people who have helped him through his journey with cancer, and whom we would like to thank; Dr. Fernandez and her team at Wellmed, Dr. Raza who helped him more than anyone could know, always encouraging him through every diagnosis, and who was amazed at the strength Julio showed after each visit. His new Oncologist Dr. Naqvi, Melissa, Virgina, Roy, and Elia (Oncology SA), who were always so kind and patient. His palliative care nurse Sandra, who took her time visiting and took really good care of him. Dr. Oakes, his palliative care doctor, who continued to be surprised by his resilience. Enough cannot be said about the team at Vitas Hospice care; Katie, Marie, Kim, made sure he was comfortable and pain free at the end. From the first nurse to the person who brought all the equipment, you could not ask for better treatment from anyone, and for this we will be forever grateful. Julio was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and told he had a year to live. He could have given up, but he refused to believe his life was over. He went through many types of treatment, each time with his blanket showing pictures of all his grand/great-grand children’s pictures looking up at him. He amazed every doctor who saw him, when he walked in strong the following month. We can all learn a lesson from Julio about not giving up. He lived for his family and he was proud of each one. We will remember him by continuing to make him proud.

  1. Gramps was one of the hardest working individuals that I know. In his healthier days, he was constantly cutting his grass, trimming trees, and tending to his flowers. He believed that you must work hard and he did that until his dying day. I will never forget the stories he shared and the places we went. We were blessed to have such a strong person to learn from. It warms my heart to know that you are now with Granny and Uncle Bebe. Gramps…until we meet again.

  2. On behalf of our Wellmed palliative care it was an honor to be part of his story, his live and his loving family. His strength and serenity were always inspiring to all of us . He will always be in our heats and memories Dr. S. Liliana Oakes

  3. My sincere condolences to Mr. Palomo’s family and friends. Mr. Palomo was my special member. He holds a special place in my heart and I will miss him dearly. I’ve been missing him this pass year in a half when his visits became less and less due to his declining health. He spoke fondly of his family. We cried together when he lost his son and his beautiful wife. We laughed when we shared stories of our grand kids and family. I’m so sad that he has passed but I have peace that he is now with Jesus and his loved ones. I will cherish his memory until we meet again. I love you Mr. Palomo. Terry Alvarado GTFCU

  10. My dad was a simple man he loved his family! He will be sorely missed by all the knew him. He lived an amazing life he was blessed to have been married to an amazing woman, my mom. There lives were completed by their grandkids and great grandkids. They adored them because they brought so much joy to their hearts. My dad had a tough exterior but inside he was loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. I will miss our weekend drive sipping on our Starbucks to St. Hedwig, to work on my land. He was an amazing man that thought us never to quit regardless of our circumstances, because that was not in the PALOMO DNA. His legacy and spirit will live on in his grandkids and great grandkids. We love you dad! Rest in peace until we meet again. Say hello to mom and Mando.
