Martha Santos

martha santos
Martha Rodriguez Santos was born November 11, 1921 in San Antonio, Texas to Maria R. Rodriguez. During the September flood of 1921, Maria climbed a tree to save herself and her unborn child, but thereafter fell ill with pneumonia. Martha’s young mother struggled to keep and raise her daughter during her illness, which persisted for 2 years before causing her death. In that time, Maria was befriended by Isabel Rivera who saw the struggle and offered to help this young family in raising Martha. Before passing Maria accepted Isabel’s offer to take her 6 month old daughter and raise her as her own, which Isabel did along with 2 of her biological daughters. Martha grew up learning so much about holistic remedies and a family’s love from her adopted mother, Isabel, and later became a strong loving woman who provided for her family. Her daughters Peggy Hempel, Rosalind Clark and Laura Galvan called her a “real woman,”who would get up at 4:00am to make sure her first husband and children’s father, Victor Meneses, had a full breakfast before he went to work. She was a dedicated homemaker, always putting family first. Martha loved music and dancing. It was on the dance floor at the age of 75 she met her second husband, Jesus Santos, Sr. She was amazing in so many ways! She was widowed twice but that did not stop her zest for life. Not only did she love to dance, she also loved reading, crafting, and shopping. Martha’s memory will live on with her 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. The love she was granted by her adopted family will carry on in the love she bestowed to the family she made for herself!
