July 22, 1937 ~ July 14, 2006
Mary K. Blakley, 68, born July 22, 1937 passed away peacefully on July 14, 2006 at her home in San Antonio, TX after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Blakely was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, a loving mother, grandmother and a former resident of Des Moines, IA. She was the daughter of Elbert and Mary Durden. Mrs. Blakely is survived by her daughter, Debra Archer, grandson William Scott of Jackson, MS and step grandson Tyler Archer and his spouse Lorena Archer of San Antonio, grandchild Alexis Scott of Las Vegas, NV; a brother Elbert Durden Jr and a sister Elsie McGee who preceded her in death; surviving sisters Wilsalene Durden and Betty Miles of Atlanta, GA; first cousin Barbara Carr of San Antonio, a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends. The family thanks all who kept her in their prayers and for all their support. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 18th, 2006, 6:00 pm at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 119 W. In Loving memory of a beautiful person, Aunt Mary. How sad it is to have to say goodbye to those people in our lives whom we came to love and respect. Aunt Mary was truly that kind of woman! There will never be an individual in my life that ever showed so much courage and toughness as aunt mae….”Old School” is all I can say. My mom, Uncle Junie and Aunt Mary..very old school people. Grew up during the “hard times” in this country..and definitely learned early on in their lives how to survive and make the best of every situation that came their way. I’m sure everyone whose lives Aunt Mary touched…learned something of value to pass on to the next generation of family member’s. Aunt Mary..you will be sorely missed!! Remember Aunt Mary is gone, but her spirt lives on through the people that she touched and the way she supported us all. When I went to Las Vegas to get married she came to give her support and check out my husband for mom, since her sister (Elise) was not there. And I was happy to have family there on my special day.
