Mildred Beatrice McNeal Reed, beloved Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother, entered into eternal rest April 28, 2012, at the age of 82. Born November 8, 1929, Mildred was the loving daughter of the late Millard and Isabel McNeal. She attended the all African American Catholic school St. Peter Claver Academy in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated at the age of 15. She went on to receive her Bachelor's degree at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and her Master's degree in Education at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. She began her teaching career at Xavier University. Upon returning to San Antonio she taught at St. Phillips College, which at that time was an all black college. Then she taught at Healy-Murphy Center and retired from teaching while at Rhodes Middle School. She became a member of the Beta Phi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 1949. She married the late William Reed IV in 1959 who later became a Major in the U.S. Air Force. Together they had four children. She was dedicated and devoted to her children, family and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Millard F. and Isabel C. McNeal, siblings Millard F. McNeal, Jr., Althea McNeal Abrams and Isabelle McNeal Chretien. Carrying on her loving memories are her sons William Reed V, Charles Emmanuel Reed, daughter Elizabeth Beatrice Voss and her husband Forrest Voss, and her grand-daughter and best friend, George Ann Beatrice Voss. Other family members are nieces Victoria Abrams and Millicent Greene along with her husband Maynard; nephew Gary Martin Abrams; and grandniece Jordan Green. Thank you, Mom, for always taking such good care of me and for guiding me to become the incredible woman I am and will continue to be. I pray you know I tried my best to make good decisions on your behalf to make you as comfortable as possible while you were declining. Please forgive me if I did anything wrong.
