Nola Mae Smalls

Nola Mae Smalls was born March 30, 1935 in Millen, Georgia to Alvin and Carrie Phillips. She was the ninth on ten children. At an early age, she started singing in the church choir. She was also in the Gospel group with a few of her siblings called The Spiritualites and they were in the Savannah, Georgia Hall of Fame. Nola Mae Smalls loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Mount Sinai Baptist Church when she lived in Savannah, Georgia and Fountain of Living Water Apostolic Church when she moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2012. On Sunday, March 17, 2019, the Lord called Nola Mae Smalls home to sing in his heavenly choir. She was welcomed by her brothers and sisters who precede her in death.
Nola Mae Smalls leaves behind to cherish her memory two children, Norris L. Hamilton and Lena M. Jackson; three grandchildren, Montain Morris, Shawana D. Jackson, and Jae J. Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Marquita Jenkins, Saneiya Morris, and Quenton N. Jackson; and two great-great grandchildren, Shamar Murray and Aarion Lindsey. Her memory also lives on through many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

My most fondest memories of my grandmother are those of her playing with me as if she were my age and sitting at the foot of her bed watching Captain Kangaroo sipping on Pink Champagne as she moisturized her face with Oil of Olay. Gonna miss her greatly. 😘

Words can’t express how much she meant to me. Nola had one of the most beautiful and genuine spirits I have ever come across. She was a member of my family and we will miss her dearly. We loved watching Ric Flair wrestle and laughing at James Brown act wild. I know there’s gonna be a party in heaven for her!
