Vardieman J. Hopkins went home to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ, Monday, June 15, 2015. Vardie was born March 14, 1937 in Monterey Park, Calif. to Harry Eugene Hopkins and Viola Wallen Hopkins. Vardie proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Thomas F. Nickel. He was honorably discharged in 1957. In 1963, Vardie met his bride, Virginia Hooper in Amarillo, TX. They wed on January 3, 1964 and blended their families together. Vardie was a hard worker and wonderful provider for their growing family. He had a passion for Christ. He evangelized in Southern California, Mexico and Texas. He was a gifted guitarist and singer and gave God all the glory for his talent. Vardie was an amazing artist and photographer. He was know also for his gift of gab. He loved Coca Cola, tamales, and Chris' hot sauce. Vardie & Virginia owned Hopkins Wood Enterprise in Amarillo, TX until moving to San Antonio, TX in the early 90's, where they operated HopArt Gallery in Rolling Oaks Mall. At the time of his death he pastored Open Door Pentecostal Church of God in San Antonio, Texas. He will be missed by many. Vardie was preceeded in death by his parents, as well a sister Dollie Hopkins Kast. He is survived by his wife Virginia, six children and their families, Rhonda Hopkins, Chip Watson, Roberta Townsend, Rebecca Young, James Hopkins, and Bunny Pumphrey. Sixteen grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister Rosie Wilson, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and wonderful friends. And last but not least a very spoiled furry companion, Pudgy.
