Preston Gerald "Skip" Gohmert age 61, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29, 2008 after a long, brave battle with cancer. He was born May 15, 1946 in Cuero, TX to Preston Gerald Gohmert, Sr. and Betty Jean Gentry Gohmert, who preceded him in death. At the age of 17, Skip joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served two tours in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged in 1966 as Boilerman, Petty Officer 3rd Class. Later in life he worked at Ameripipe Supply as an 18 wheeler truck driver. Survivors include his loving wife and companion of 16 years, Annette Verhey-Gohmert; his sister, Barbara Haby (Rodney); brother, George Gohmert (Deborah); mother-in-law, Elvira Berlanga; sisters-in-law, Marie Smith (John), Dennette Young (Jerry), Suzette Berlanga, and Abby Murillo (Mike); nieces, Sabre Niemietz (Joshua), Leah McCulloch (Shaun), Lindsey Gohmert, Afton and Savannah Smith, Tanya Lopez, Katie Berlanga, Miranda Murrillo; nephews, Brandon Haby (Jessica), Louie Lopez, and Mikey and Frankie Murrillo; aunts, Joyce Klaus and Verna Lee Gohmert. Skip is also survived by many cousins, great-nephews and one great-niece. Skip's pallbearers will be the "Rat-Pack": Ernest Jackson, Weldon Jackson, Roy Jackson, Ricky Jackson, John Scott, and Steve Davis. Honorary pallbearer will be James Clifton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Meadowlawn Tribute Center, 5415 E. Houston. The graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2008 at El Carmen Cemetery in San Antonio.

I haven’t gotten to see him in a long time, but I have many, many fond memories of growing up visiting with him, Barbara and George and their families and Uncle Preston and Aunt Betty. My thoughts go out to all of you during this time. Skip was an awesome guy and a lot of fun. I too looked up to him.

  9. We go back to childhood. I can’t recall not knowing Skip and we maintained contact through the years. He’s gone but certainly not forgotten. I have many wonderful memories. Annette, he loved you dearly. George and Barbara, he loved you as only a big brother could. God Bless.

I am sorry I missed your funeral and wish I could have been there to show how much you meant to me in the time that you were my step father.
