Rev. Alvin Nelson Jr.

Alvin Nelson, Jr., was born September 1, 1944, in Orange, Texas to the late Alvin Nelson, Sr., and Kitty Mae Hunter. He attended the West Orange Stark Public School District his entire childhood and graduated from Wallace High School, Class of 1962. Ironically, a modeling opportunity brought him to San Antonio initially, but soon after his arrival, his pursuit changed to Law Enforcement. Alvin began his law enforcement career with the Converse Police Department where he only remained for a couple of years due to a quest for greater opportunities. His tenacity led to a position with the Universal City Police Department and the San Antonio SWAT Team. While employed with the UCPD, he served most of his duration as the department's Chaplain and was able to quickly move up the ranks to Sergeant and Lieutenant Officer. His diligent and dedicated service in law enforcement enabled him to retire after thirty years. When Alvin wasn’t working as a police officer, he was serving the Lord. He became a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in his early years of residing in San Antonio (1970) and became a Deacon and a devoted member until his health declined and prevented active attendance. He was ordained as a Minister in 2004, which was a proud accomplishment. Alvin was a kind and gentle man who was highly respected and revered among his peers and anyone whom he encountered. He dedicated himself to the Lord and vowed to replicate his life as reflected in Biblical doctrine. In his spare time, he loved working out and running; as a result, health and fitness became some of Alvin’s top priorities. He was also actively diligent in keeping his trucks and sports cars clean and always shining. In addition, he loved dogs and enjoyed caring for them. Sharing time with his wife and his Rottweilers were some of the happiest moments of his life. Shortly after Alvin came to San Antonio, he married in 1968 and became the proud father of his two sons, Al Marcus and Alvin Nelson, III. He sought out love for a second time and married Cassie B. Nelson in 1998. They enjoyed a cherished marriage for the past twenty-three years. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Nelson, Sr., and Kitty Mae Hunter Nelson; one son, Al Marcus Nelson; one brother, Larry McCollister; one sister, Evia Merile Rodgers; and in-laws, Amos Taylor and Tyler Mae Taylor. He leaves to cherish everlasting memories: his wife, Cassie B. Nelson; one son, Alvin Nelson III (Moeleke); daughter-in-law, Julie Nelson; two grandsons, Austin and Callen Nelson; six sisters, Johnnie Beavers, Emma Benoit, Shirley Harris (Bernard), Ellen Thibodeaux, Lydia Garrett, and Velva Nelson; two brothers, Alvin Eugene Nelson (Julie) and Sylvester Lee Nelson (Sarah) and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and in-laws who will miss his kind nature and gentle presence. He will never be forgotten
