Sidney Lee Trice
June 14, 1956 ~ May 17, 2005
Sidney Lee Trice, age 48, passed away at his San Antonio home on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Sid was a native of Lorena, Texas, the sixth of seven children born to George and Ruth Elizabeth Starr Trice. As a self-employed computer graphics and website designer, he worked with many businesses and other organizations in the San Antonio area.
Fine arts have always been at the core of Sid’s life. From early childhood, he wrote prose and poetry, composed and performed music, and created original artwork with oils, pastels and charcoal. Sid was deeply committed to the theater. During his years in San Antonio, he earned lead actor Globe Awards in drama, comedy and musical productions. His work with local theater companies, and the many friendships he formed there, were a source of great fulfillment and delight.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sid is survived by his beloved partner, James Darren Collins; his sisters, Elizabeth Bartlett, Jan Nimmo, Treva Dayton and Jill Boeck; his brothers, Rex Trice and Keith Trice; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Friends and family will celebrate Sid’s life at a memorial service in San Antonio, Tuesday, June 21st, 7:30 P.M. at the Sheldon Vexler Theatre located in the lower level of Barshop Jewish Community Center, 12500 N.W. Military Dr. There will be a graveside memorial service Saturday, June 18th, 11:00 A.M. at the Starr family cemetery located on State Hwy. 19, 3 miles north of Elkhart, Texas, where Sid’s cremated remains will be buried.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations in Sid’s honor may be made to the Ruth Elizabeth Trice Scholarship Fund that he created at the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (P. O. Box 8028, Austin, TX 78713-8028).

I am so very sorry to learn that we have lost Sid. It breaks my heart. He was so young. Each of you are in my prayers. So sad to hear about Sid. My thoughts and prayers are with James, his family, and countless friends. I worked with Sid in years past, and continued to follow him thru the newspaper. He was such a talent–so witty and intelligent. I’ll never forget his laugh.

I remember Sid’s laughter and love of music. I hope that all of us that knew him remember such happy times. James, Treva, Jan, and all that loved him; find joy in his memory and pass that joy to others through tears, laughter and song, even as we miss him in our hearts. Remember that Sid loved a good time and would want the good times to continue beyond his ability to enjoy them.

I always remeber that Uncle Sid would come over to the house and play the piano while my brother, sister, and I sang along. It was always so interesting to hear him play and share all of his knowledge and love for music. He is someone that I, along with the rest of my family will greatly miss. I love Uncle Sid, may he rest in peace.
Although not tied by blood, I will forever be connected to Uncle Sid through love. I could never thank my Uncle Darren enough for placing such a wonderful, fantastic, clever, and loving family member into my life. Looking back, Uncle Sid’s gift of music is always prevalent when looking back upon his life, he sang with the essence of a true rock n roll genius and the capacity of a composer which created a beautiful and gorgeous sound. I can’t ever forget sitting upon the piano with my Uncle Darren and Uncle Sid singing show tunes, Janis Joplin, and Elton John, just the three of us while Uncle Sid played the piano and sang along in all his grandeur, one of the happiest and funniest times of my life. I treasure that moment and the many others surrounding it. I miss him so, and I love him, so very much. I thank God and my wonderful Uncle Darren that he was such a special part of my family and created such wonderful memories in my life. I love you, Uncle Sid.
I’m so sad to hear of Sid’s passing. We were roommates at UT’s Jester Dorm over 30 years ago, and although we hadn’t kept in touch, he has always been in my thoughts. I’ll always remember his talent, charisma, wit, and intelligence… as well as his favorite boots, the wall of Dr. Pepper cans, jamming in Jester’s piano room, and exploring UT’s maze of tunnels. There will be a space in all of our hearts where Sid will reside forwever. One of my favorite memories of him was learning how to Country Western dance in San Francisco.What fun we had!!!

I just learned of Sid’s passing, and wanted to pass along my sympathies… Sid, David Brickler, Jim Stelling and I played some wonderful music together over 30 years ago at UT. I will always remember those days. Sid will be missed.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Sid’s passing. We met when I moved to San Francisco in October of 1981. We became close friends but eventually lost touch after he moved back to Texas. He was an enormously talented man and lived his life to the fullest. I often played the piano for him while he listened intently.
