Sophia M. Anderson

sophia anderson
Sophia Mae Anderson, Deadwyler passed from this life into the hands of the Lord February 2nd 2013 in her daughters home with family. She was born on December 31st, 1923 in South Carolina. Our comfort, in knowing that we, who live in Christ will one day see her again in the presence of the Lord. When Sophia was 8yrs. old she and two her two brothers were lovingly placed at De La Howe Orphanage in McCormick, SC where she lived until her 18th birthday. Lil, her best friend and Sophia headed on their big adventure to Florida where she met her first husband Eugene Wright, who was shot down in WWII. Sophia's' job transferred her to San Antonio. She took a job at the Light Newspaper as a telephone Operator and soon met Leslie (Andy) Antone Anderson her husband of 51 years. Andy passed March 12th, 1999. Sophia found profound joy being a mother and caretaker to those in need. Her children both say "Our mom taught us compassion for others; one of her greatest gifts". She was known for always giving of herself and time to others. Sophia has a strong spirit and a fierce independence. She insisted those that stopped by to eat and always offered a refreshment. While visiting Sophia you realized that you were being taught about her favorite subject; Life ! Her Life classes also included a strong work ethic, how to create a gourmet meal from left-overs, and how to decorate HGTV style on a budget. She was truly a Class Act. Trips to the beach, the warmth of the sun, sunsets and gazing in wonder at the minute details of Gods' Creation charged her battery and sent her spirit soaring. Mexican platters, peanut brittle, an outfit from Chico's, the Bachelor and Dancing with The Stars also made her smile. Sophia sang beautifully, danced in the kitchen, and lived out the comedy of Lucille Ball naturally; one funny lady ! She taught that laughter IS the best medicine and that a positive attitude paired with the old fashioned "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" WORKS. Sophia is greatly admired and will be missed by family, friends and those who came across her path. In her last years she enjoyed remarkable caregivers and friends who contributed to her ability to live independently with pride. Special appreciation is extended to Maria Vega, Doris Green, Amparo Graseda, Jean Schrell, Jim Wuneburger, Jim Stamper, Betty Delgado, Carlos Tijerino and Mary Reiber.Thank you All. In her last days, we want to especially thank Vitas Hospice. Sophia's' desire is to be Cremated. Her ashes will rest with her husband at Medina Lake where they raised their children Mark and Dana. By the families request, in lieu of flowers or visitation donations may be made to De La Howe School in the name of Sophia Mae Deadwyler. Mailing address: 192 Gettys Rd. McCormick, South Carolina 29835 ATTN. Tom Haynes. Sophia was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Antone (Andy) Anderson in 1999.
