Will Edward Hayes, 85, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 28th, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born September 11th, 1932 in Chipley, Florida to Gordon B. Hayes and Vermell Martin. He left home at an early age to join the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 21 years before being honorably discharged. He went on to work for many years with the City of Laredo Airport Police Department from which he retired. Despite many hardships and obstacles in life, he always maintained a positive outlook with a strong faith that kept him going. He was never at a loss for words and would strike up conversations just about anywhere he went. He will be dearly missed by those who crossed his path. Will was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Elsie C. Gutierrez; parents, Gordon B. Hayes and Vermell Mitchell; his grandson, Robert Garcia; and his granddaughter, Michelle Moke. He is survived by his children, Frances N. Hayes, Debbie L. Cisneros (Guadalupe), Issa J. Arredondo (David), Laurie A. Camacho (Louie), Valerie Y. Moke (Manuel), and Will Edward Hayes Jr; siblings, Frank Hayes, David Hayes, Ben D. Hayes (Jill), Bessie Martin (James), Betty Bass (Allen), and Marsha Harris (Gary); brothers/sisters in law, Olga Cahill, Maruca Eubank, Antonio Gutierrez (Jackie), Leroy Gutierrez (Josie), Judy Watts (Richard), and Issa Gibson (Bill); He was Grandpa to Tania, Rebecca, Daniel, Annie, Issita, David J, Mark, JJ, Lee, Benton, Samantha, Manuel Jr, and Matthew; He was Great Grandpa Hayes to Elijah, Ashlee, Alyssa, Micah, SJ, Lucy, Ellie, Sofia, MJ, Cameron, Jax, and Sarah. Viewing will be 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, November 6, 2017 at Meadowlawn Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, Texas. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. Arrangements are under the care and direction of MeadowLawn Funeral Home, 5611 E. Houston, San Antonio, Texas 78220.
