Charles “Charlie” Hubbard, passed away peacefully at his home in Texas, surrounded by his family on the 27th of September.
He was born in 1933 in Grand Prairie, TX. His family moved to Roswell, New Mexico when he was three, and that is where he lived until he joined the Navy in 1950. He served as Flight Engineer during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Aultman, and the USS Bonhomme in the Marshall Islands and Kwajalein. In 1954 he was honorably discharged; he then returned to NM. He worked doing surveys and disputes over water rights, rebuilding dams, and surveyor work for the state highway department of NM. He attended Eastern New Mexico, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1961. He became a licensed land surveyor in the 1960’s, and became a licensed civil engineer in 1970.
He worked many jobs, but ultimately ended up at Mountain Bell in 1963 where he rose through the ranks to reach 3rd level before retiring after 22 years. During those years he was involved in the Jaycees and the Elks club.
He loved to fish, hunt, collect rocks, do projects, watch sports, and entertain friends and family. He always said if you were going to do something, do it right.
Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary, of 53 years. His three daughters: Minnie and her husband, Pete Fuerstnau, of Michigan, Mary Harmon of Mississippi, Marie and her husband, Mike Davis, of Texas; 5 grandchildren: James, Michael, Elaine, Thomas, and Shannon; two great grandchildren: Isaac and Violet; and his sister, Patricia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles left this world after a long hard-fought battle, but he left behind a strong and resilient family. We shall carry on in his footsteps, even though they are very large ones for us to fill. His smile, love and laughter will be greatly missed.
Charles requested cremation, with no services or memorials. The family will spread his ashes at the lake he never had the chance to fish at.
arrangments are being provided by Meadowlawn Memorial Park, San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to the charity of your choice in his memory. He would be honored.
