Obituary

Isaac Pledger was born on September 9, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to Sim and Annie Colston Pledger. He was one of 7 children raised by his father after losing his mother. When he became of age, he and his brother Sim Jr. left Birmingham to join the military.

During his military career, he traveled the world and embraced different cultures in the states and abroad. While stationed in the states, he was introduced to the love of his life, Billie K, and their union created two beautiful children, Donna and Rodney.

In 1974, he and his wife returned to San Antonio, Texas to raise their children. They joined Greater Ball Tabernacle AME Methodist Church under the leadership and guidance of Rev. C. S. Marshall. As a dedicated member, Ike served faithfully as a trustee of the church and at one point held the roles of Trustee Pro Tem - Senior Trustee, handyman and groundskeeper with a smile and eagerness to serve.

After 21 years of service in the Air Force, Ike retired as a Technical Sergeant from Brooks Air Force Base and was eager to begin his civilian life with his family and as an employee of the Texas Workforce Commission. Ike was dedicated to helping veterans and anyone in the community that needed jobs. Many people referred to him as the man at TWC who helped me start my career. He took great pride in the community he resided, worked and attended church in. He was often seen walking in the community taking time to speak to the small business owners and neighbors that knew him by name, on his way to have lunch with his wife and daughter every day.

After retiring from TWC, he attended Texas Lutheran University and received his Bachelor and Master Degree in Business Administration while working in the credit department for Sears and doing volunteer work for Fort Sam Houston Military Base.

Isaac lived a full life checking off his bucket list and serving the San Antonio community for over 40 years. He truly took full advantage of all this world had to offer him. Even when diagnosed with an illness, he fought back with dedication and drive to live the best life possible, continuing to make a positive impact on people’s lives for 20 more years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, three brothers and two sisters. He will truly be missed by his brother Benjamin Pledger (Jackie), his son Rodney Pledger, granddaughter Brianne Walker (David), great granddaughters, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends that LOVED him dearly.
