SFC (ret.) Moses F. Harris was born on April 15, 1934 to the late David Harris and the late Lucy Scutter Harris in Norwood, LA. He joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Centerville, Mississippi and confessed Christ at a young age under the leadership of the late Rev. Stran Hill. Moses grew up assisting his late grandmother Mrs. Annie Montegue who was a midwife and delivered babies throughout the countryside, which later encouraged his interest in nursing. He was a graduate of East Feliciana Parish High School. He married his childhood sweetheart Helen and to their union three children were born. In June of 1956, he entered the Army and for 22.5 years traveled worldwide with tours in Germany, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and various Posts around the domestic United States. Moses loved to teach and spent many years doing so in the AIT phase for Combat Medics at Fort Sam Houston. After retirement he went on to teach varied nursing courses at American Careers and St. Phillips College. The love of nursing led him to Wayland University where he pursued a degree in Hospital Administration. In 2001 he entered his second retirement from Civil Service at Fort Sam Houston.

He loved Jesus, Helen, his kids, his grandkids, Tree Mount Temple, Western movies, the Dallas Cowboys and ice cream with cookies. He was a talker and storyteller with lots of details from which to learn. He loved many people and many people loved him. He was belovedly called “Dad or PawPaw” by half of San Antonio!

He is preceded in death by his parents David and Lucy Harris, his in-laws Martin and Hattie Young, his adopted brother David Harris Jr., his sisters Mae Lizzie Collins and Ann Parker, 4 sister-in-laws, Mamie Batiste, Jane McCant, Emma Young and Grace Journegen, 5 brother-in-laws, Zeke, JD, Bill, Jack and Herbert Young.
