col. charles anderson
Beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, artist. Charles Ellis Anderson, affectionately known as Charlie, asked to be with the Lord In the late hours on Wednesday, July 14, at 11:25 PM, in his home, in Windcrest Texas. Charles Ellis Anderson was born May 3, 1940, in Greenville Mississippi, to Goldie Herman Anderson and Mary Agnes Manier Anderson. Charles served in the United States Air Force for 27 years serving in Vietnam earning the Bronze Star among numerous commendations and reaching the rank of full Colonel in his military journey. His career and love of discovery, travel, and experience, took he and his family all over the world, living in exotic and historic places like Bangkok, Okinawa, Italy, Vandenberg, and Texas. As a civilian Charlie picked up the brush and began pursuing his artistic talents and redefining himself as a artist. A devout Catholic, he loved the Lord with all of his heart. He loved spending time with his family and was completely devoted to his grandchildren. He was an avid collector as well as an accomplished cook and loved to share his talents with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his older sisters Kate and Lucille Abdo, brother Gordon Anderson, nephew Michael Anderson, and his youngest son Daniel Anderson. He is survived by his sons Scott and Christopher Anderson, his daughter-in-law Susan Thomas Anderson, and his two grandchildren, Jackson and Campbell Anderson each an artist like Charlie. He is also survived by his nephew, Roger Anderson and niece, Karen Van Wicklen. Charlie was an energetic, playful and vibrant man with a clever sense of humor and the ability to make others feel welcome and loved instantly. He was the spark in our fires, and he will be dearly missed. He loves God. He loved country. He loved his family. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Heart Association. Prayers, sympathies and thoughts can be sent to 6214 Spindrift Lane, Windcrest, Texas 78239. Line art by Campbell Anderson ©️2021

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Scott, Susan, Jackson, Campbell & the whole family – we are sending our love and condolences from Chicago. One of my favorite Charlie memories is from one of your family get-togethers on Warwick and he was making bread pudding with a bourbon sauce and he was delighted to hear bread pudding was my favorite dessert! I always enjoyed hanging out when he was in town. I know you will miss him and we’re sending you big hugs! xoxo, Beth, Jonathan, Piper & Mason

  2. I knew Charlie Anderson at Barksdale AFB and Randolph AFB. He was a great athlete and a talented artist.

  3. Charlie and I use to drive the Windcrest Citizens Patrol Car, sorta like Car-54, twice a month, looking for open garage doors, and to report to the Police Dept., any suspicious activity. On a tour Charlie noticed a homeless person walking near Rackspace properties, so we roll up and the homeless woman is frightened, an old police vehicle with a light bar, Charlie rolls down the window and saying Hi, hands her a handful of cash and we drive off. Charlie was awesome. “It cost nothing to be kind to another, but what kindness does for the other is priceless” Norm
