Dora B. Furber

dora furber
Dora “Grangran” Furber, loving mother, grandmother and dedicated Loteria player, reached peace at her home on July 18, 2021 at the tender age of 78. The daughter of the late Jesus and Amelia, she made her entrance on December 28, 1942 in Laredo, TX. A strong-willed, devoted single mother of four, Dora acquired her Master of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1979. Her passion for adventure and desire for travel carried Dora throughout Texas and several other countries. She pursued many interests in work and in recreation, where she – as someone once put it – may not have made many roses, but established deep roots. Dora officially retired in the early 2000’s, however, according to her; she was always extraordinarily busy working: for herself and loved ones. She enjoyed the finer side of retirement mainly at Northeast Senior Center with her close friends. She thrived on coffee and tacos. Her incredible talents include being a frugal gambler and master of dark humor. A true Capricorn, if Dora thought it, she did it; or said it for that matter. It is quite possible that she single handedly shaped the elite forces of customer service representatives of San Antonio and corporate businesses. A tenacious woman, Dora has contributed substantially to the upkeep of local hospitals and medical facilities; ensuring the employment of only the finest doctors and specialists. If you are unsure what that means, then as Dora would say, “you’re missing the point!” Dora is predeceased by her daughter Cathy and son Jessie. She is survived by eldest son Raymond and youngest daughter Carol. Dora relinquishes the title of “Grangran”, “Grandma”, “Old Lady”, and countless (but classic and sometimes hilarious) others to 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Dora is already, and will be missed by family and numerous friends. The last viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday July 26, 2021, 5:00PM - 8:00PM, at MeadowLawn Funeral Home, 5611 E. Houston St. The rosary will be recited at 6:00PM. The burial service will be held on Tuesday July 27, 2021, 9:00AM. Followed by a reception 11:00AM - 1:00PM, at Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown Dr. Flowers can be delivered to MeadowLawn or ordered directly from the MeadowLawn website at https://meadowlawn-funeral-home-crematory-and-cemetery- inc.tributestore.com/?oId=21739691&tag=&source=tco_button&mtph=1&_ga=2.168042855.714 107145.1627069884-1568137780.1627069884.
