Dorothy Lee Mattson

dorothy mattson
Dorothy Mattson was born in Pleasanton Texas to Willie Adamitz and Lillie Tondre Adamitz November 24, 1928. She went home to be with our Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Dorothy and her family lived in the old South San neighborhood of San Antonio. She attended elementary through high school there, and she participated in just about all activities offered. As she put it, the school was so small everyone participated in everything! Dorothy went on to attend Durham’s Business College. After completion, she worked as an Administrative Secretary in the oil and gas industry for Ralph Fair. She married Ed Mattson on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1951. Dorothy and Ed had a long history. They attended elementary school together and were married for 60 years. Dorothy loved working in her flower beds. They were always full of colorful flowers. She also enjoyed what she called hand work; needlepoint, crewel, embroidery, crochet and cross stitch. She enjoyed dressmaking and made clothes for herself and Valerie. Dorothy always dreamed of being able to paint. So, at the age of 50 in the early 1980s she began painting classes. Combining her love of photography with painting, Dorothy, her art instructor Bob Anderson, and her friend Margie Kellner travelled many miles taking pictures and putting them to canvas. Dorothy wanted to pass along her love of Texas to her grandchildren. She and Ed delighted in driving Chris, Nathan and Hilarie all across Texas to places of interest, teaching them its history. They would just show up and say, Let’s go on an adventure and off they went. She especially loved her wildflowers. She would take walks at the ranch with her camera, documenting each flower. Once when Hilarie was walking with her she asked Dorothy, “Granny how will I always remember you?” Granny replied “whenever you see bluebonnets in the spring remember each one is a kiss from me!” A favorite meeting place was the family ranch where many celebrations and holidays were observed over its 37 year history. Granny always outdid herself making these occasions fun for everyone--a tradition which is certain to continue -- just as she wanted. She was a great cook and delighted in making treats for everyone--each his or her favorite-and if she was asked how she made them taste so good, she’d reply, “It’s easy! You just add the love!” Granny always trusted God and knew that He would sustain her through the hardest times. And He always did. Her family will always cherish the times they were able to spend together. Her legacy will be continued by children Valerie and David Beabout, grandchildren Chris and Kristi Beabout, Nathan and Margaret Beabout, Hilarie and Chris Eyhorn, and great grandchildren Carlee and Kelsee Beabout, Andie and Mattson Beabout, and Addison Eyhorn. She will rest at the chapel on the family ranch alongside her husband Ed.
