Mary Jane Barnes

A beautiful baby named Mary Jane Barnes was born March 10, 1922 to Charlie and Sophia Barnes in Leesville, Texas. Mary Jane was one of sixteen children. She grew up in Poth and Floresville, Texas. In 1952 she moved to San Antonio, Texas. Mary Jane had five children; James Allen Barnes (deceased), Lillian Barnes Williams, Roy Lee Barnes, Johnny Barnes, and Travis Barnes. She leaves a host of grand-children; great grand-children; great great- grandchildren; a cousin Dorothy; her extended family Bonnie and Bill Simmons; Naomi and Michael Nye, and their families Mary loved to sing and she sang in church choir. She also loved to play bingo. Mary taught her children to love holidays because it was always a time for the family to get together and celebrate. It was a special time to her. Early in life she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and later she joined Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Adolph Woods. Everyone respected her at the Frank Hornsby Apartments and they loved her cooking. She loved to hear Pastor Owens preach and the choir sing. Our family will miss her in so many ways. We hope we can live even a part of her ways and have a fulfilled life.
