Mattie M. Bailey

On Tuesday, July 9, 2019 Mattie Mae Bailey mother of two children, passed away at the age of 89. Mattie was born on July 19, 1929 in Holly Bluff, Mississippi to Lee Perry and Mamie Elam. She was a special education teachers assistant for the Saint Mary’s County School District in the State of Maryland for several years. On May 9, 1955 she married Ralph Bailey. They raised two children Ralph Bailey Jr. and Yvonne Bailey. Mattie used to love to walk. She would take daily strolls throughout the various neighborhoods where she lived. Mattie kept up the family tradition of quilting and has made several personal quilts for family and friends. She also used to sew clothing for herself and family and often made her own draperies. She loved to participate in church functions. She was an usher at Saint Nicholas Chapel at the Patuxent Naval Air Station for several years. Mattie was known to be direct and strong willed, however, she tempered those traits by being thoughtful, wise, truthful. She loved and cared for her family and friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, mother, father, and siblings Minnie, Ann, John, and Bud. She is survived by her two children, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her surrogate children.
