Richard C. Stevens

Richard Stevens was born in Schulenburg, Texas on January 9, 1927 to Andrew Charles and Elma Polk Stevens. He was one of ten children. Richard attended the public schools of Schulenburg until he had to quit school to work at a dairy farm to help support the family. The family eventually moved to San Antonio when he was still quite young. Later in life he worked for CPS as a porter, he also learned to drive 18 wheelers and spent many years on the road. He eventually stopped trucking and went to work for Riata Cadillac for many years but retired from MTS Freight. It was during this time he found a church family and church home at Greater Tree Mount Temple Baptist Church. Early in life he married Julia Smith and to this union five adoring children were born. Later in life he married Annie Jackson and her six adoring children. These eleven adoring and beautiful children blessed Richard with twenty eight grandchildren, forty four great grandchildren and twenty nine great-great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Willie P. Stevens, Andrew C. Stevens, Jr., David L. Stevens and Shelly Foster Stevens; five sisters, Ida Mac Gluier, Claudia Mac Johnson, Marcel Jackson, Alberta Grimes and Bessie Smith; two children, Robert Wellington and Franklin L. Johnson. His memory will be honored and cherished by his loving wife Annie Stevens; his children, Sarah A. Johnson Smith, David Johnson, Sr., Delores Johnson Nichols, Debra D. Johnson Stinson, Kathy A. Wellington Harris, Mae R. Wellington, Wallace Wellington, Jr., Veronica L. Wellington and Sonja Wellington Williams; twenty eight grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren; twenty nine great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
