There is a new laugh in heaven and it belongs to Tommy Ford who went to be with the Lord at the age of 60. Ford was born on December 3, 1946 and grew up on San Antonio’s eastside where he attended Highlands High School. Ford decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps and go into the education field. He was one of the first African American teachers in the Northside School District and at Clark High School. He wanted to see students succeed and graduate from Clark High School. He was liaison and advocate for student achievement. He was well known for passing out “tootsie rolls” which he proudly renamed “soul rolls”. He built up an esteemed career as a very fun and caring teacher that was quick to smile and would always laugh. Ford was a legend and paved the way for many students at Clark High School and the Northside Independent School District. Ford believed his mission in his life time was to educate youth. “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” John 17:18. He is survived by his mother, Clara B. Ford. A special thanks goes to James Brandenburg, Mirtha Vaughn, Deborah Porcher and Eric Weiss. Tommy E. Ford, 60, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2006. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Meadowlawn Tribute Center, 5611 E. Houston St., San Antonio, TX 78220. 2. I remember seeing Mr. Ford for the first time almost twenty years ago passing out \\\”Soul Rolls\\\” in the halls of A Building. Many years later, I had the pleasure of working with him as a substitute teacher at Clark High School. The world has lost a truly dedicated, intelligent, kind and sensitive person. Thanks are not enough for the brilliant light he shined into our lives. Rest In Peace. \\\”Part of being a Master is learning how to sing in nobody else\\\’s voice but your own.\\\” -Hugh MacLeod

Just the presence you\\\’d get when you\\\’d walk down the hall and hear his cheerful laugh or recieve a soul roll..it was like a breath of fresh air. He had a very outgoing personality and put others before he put himself. I even remember a few times going off campus for lunch i\\\’d see him walkin and just waving at almost anyone. I\\\’m gonna miss that. He will be deeply missed.

  82. I never had Mr. Ford as a teacher but I had talked to him on a few occassions. He went out of his way to talk to anyone he could in the halls and always made you laugh or even just put a smile on your face. His laugh could be heard through the halls and it was contagious. No matter how bad your day seemed, his laugh and kind words would make you feel better. He is one of the few teachers that I remember and will never forget. He would wave at anyone who said his name and waved at him on the street as he walked from the store with his breakfast. He always had kind words to say wether he knew you or not. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.

  86. I was never lucky enough to have been in his class, but i had two classes acorss from his room for three years staight. I looked forward to those class periods, so much in fact that I would rush to class and be early so I could talk to Mr.Ford before the bell rang. It didn’t matter what my topic of conversation was that day, he was there to listen. Rather I needed a good laugh, an ear to cry to, or much needed knock up side the head…he was there. He was always there, I always knew that. I missed him when I graduated and I am sorry that I couldn’t tell him that sooner. He was a wonderful educator here and he will be an even better one up there…heaven needs teachers too. His family is in my heart and in my prayers. Class Of 05

  87. mr. ford was my most favorite teacher he was the only one who could make me laugh even when i felt horrible and usually that is impossible. he is one of the most friendly and cheerful people i have ever known ill miss you mr. ford <333

  88. To the Ford family and friends, my sincere condolences. Although he has gone to a greater place his laughter and our memories of him will always remain here with us. I am a 1983 graduate of Clark and Mr. Ford was my freshman year English I teacher. He will never be forgotten and to many families such as my own, he is known as “mom’s favorite teacher”. God bless you and know that our prayers and thoughts are with you.

  89. My heart and prayers are with you. I never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Ford but my son, Chase did (in his senior year). He described him as the best teacher at Clark. I just had to let you know that Mr. Ford was very loved and it is not often that I see my son at such a loss. It is only a temporary separation … as his family and loved ones, plus his many friends will join him in love some day. For now, he is the lucky one to be surrounded by God’s love.

  90. My heart is heavy hearing my dear friend is no longer here to laugh with us. I have known Mr. Ford as student and coleague for twenty five pluse years, and I knew him as nothing but a gentle man with a smile and a kind word. I will miiss him very much.

  92. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the Ford Family. Mr. Ford was my English teacher in 1987 and he was a fun and great teacher. He is with GOD now and I believe his laugh is filling Heaven as it did at Clark. Mr. Ford will never be forgotten and my prayers will remain with the Ford family. GOD Bless You All! (Class of 1989)

  95. R.I.P. MR. FORD, WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND YOUR WONDERFUL LAUGH. I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST MET YOU I WAS IN THE TRAINING ROOM AND YOU CAME IN TO TALK TO DOC. WE WILL ALL MISS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU! WE MISS YOU DEARLY.

  96. I always heard so much about you from my sisters, and brothers, and was not so lucky to have you as a teacher but lucky to know you. I remeber taking the TAKS test and during the middle you could hear your wonderful laugh all through out the halls at Clark. You are a great role model for me, because i hope to become a teacher. I want to be one that loved the job just as much at you did. Thanks for making a diffrence on my life even know you never knew that you did. RIP Mr. Ford. May god be with your family!

  97. In deepest sympathy to Mr. Ford’s family, I never had the pleasure of being his student but his laugh across the hallways will always be in my mind… R.I.P Mr Ford..you’ll be missed deeply.

  98. Mr Ford has touched many generations of students with his teaching and amazing, outgoing personality. He will be deeply missed from all of the Clark alum that knew his kindness and unique spirit. RIP .

  99. I remember my sophomore year at lunch time Mr. Ford would be outside and my friends and I would go talk to him. Mr. Ford named the group the “fantastic four.” Class of 03

  100. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ford family and friends. Mr. Ford was a great creative teacher. I had him at Marshall HS in 1977 when he made an M&M candy a ‘sprit’ pill. He made learning fun. He later filled the Clark HS halls with laughter. God Bless, Mr. Ford. He will be remembered always.

  101. Tommy Ford became my friend when I came to Clark in 1979 and was a colleague and friend for as long as I remained at Clark. My condolences to his family and to all who will miss him, as I do.

  102. What an incredible loss this is to all that knew and loved Mr. Ford. He was such a kind and wonderful person! I was so blessed to have known him and to have had him as a teacher. He was always such a positive and inspiring role model for all the students. When I married he came by and brought a wedding gift…he was always so thoughtful. You will never know how much he and the sound of his laughter will be missed, but he will live on in all of our hearts forever! To his mother…May the Lord comfort you and give you peace. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Class of ’87

  103. I never had Mr.Ford for class but all my friends that did loved him…. I remember him passing out his “soul rolls” by the door of his classroom as we walked down the halls…He was a unique and original man and I know he will be greatly missed.

  104. What a gift we were all blessed with having Mr. Ford share in our lives and education. Mr. Ford had a true spirit for life and a gift for teaching, which will live on through all those he touched. Remembering when he came to Marshall High School, the “Redneck” school he brought to life! I watched and listened to stories my siblings shared and once I had children I begged for my children to have him as a teacher when the three of them attended Clark. I had the privilege of talking to Mr. Ford once again after so many years recently and during our conversation I thanked him for so many years of selfless service to the community. Once again, THANK YOU MR FORD FOR ALL THE TIME, LOVE, SPIRIT AND COMPASSION YOU GAVE TO EACH OF US. You had a passion for life and love that will live on forever. A part of you lives on in each life you touched. To Mrs. Ford- My children and I each send our heartfelt sympathy and our love to you. Your son was a blessing to all. Nadia (Lally) Alvarez Marshall H.S. (1977)

  105. I didn’t have the opportunity to be taught by Mr. Ford, but everyone knew who Mr. Ford was. His smile, his laugh, his walk to school with breakfast in hand day after day… He would brighten the halls of Clark with his warmhearted personality and the parking lot with the outrageous decals on his car. He will be sincerely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this loss.

  106. Mr. Ford was a wonderful teacher and an even better man. Without any hesitation I know this world is a better place because he was in it. I was lucky to have had him as a teacher and mentor my sophomore year. He will be so missed and I am sorry for your loss. Diana Goza (Diana Cook; Class of 2000)

  107. God Bless “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” –Henry Brooks Adams Everyday when I enter Clark high school, I’ll look for your car. Eat a soul roll, get an orange juice, and laugh. Just for you, Mr. Ford.

  108. Tommy was my mentor the first year I was at Clark. He gave me very good advice and showed me a new and wonderful way to relate to the students. I was very impressed by the huge number of former students who were continually dropping by to see Mr. Ford. Whenever anyone found out I worked at CHS, the first thing they wanted to know was, “Is Mr. Ford still there?” Some of the best advice he gave me was “to sleep on it” when I might be upset about something, and that was great advice. I can recall only one day of work that he took off while I was with him. His integrity and work ethic were an example to all. He always called the ladies “my dear”. I was blessed to get to know him and so were his students. He was funny, interesting, well-traveled, and just full of amusing stories. I could talk to him for hours. He was unique and exceptional, and he left his mark on the world. I will miss you “dearly” Tommy E. Ford, at school, at HEB, the book stores, walking in the neighborhood, and everywhere you made your indelible presence. With great fondness, Terry Livingston

  109. My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by the passing of Mr. Ford. Like so many others, I will never forget his generous laugh echoing through the hallways, or the ever popular soul rolls. To this day, I still refer to a tootsie roll as a soul roll. He never failed to bring a smile to my face. I have never seen someone as happy to be doing their job as Mr. Ford. Whenever I think about high school, he is in my thoughts. Mr. Ford has been an inspiration to many students including myself. I will always remember him as a loving and caring teacher. Thank you Mr. Ford for all that you have done for us. Ryan Taylor Class of 1998

  110. Never did I directly have Mr. Ford as a teacher, but one thing you can remember about him, is his glowing personality and his ability to warm a person’s heart no matter what there situation was. We have lost a great man but his spirit will continue to live on and his laughter will be forever remembered through the halls of Tom Clark.

  111. I have known Mr. Ford since I was 2 years old. My mom’s classroom was right next to his. When we would help her in her room, we would visit Mr. Ford because he always had “soul rolls” that he would share. From the time I first met him until I graduated in 2004, I can’t remember a day without his booming laugh. We love you Mr. Ford and you will be missed by me and my triplet brothers who thought the world of you.

  112. Since my first day at Clark in 1988 to the present, Tommy has been a dear friend. My son’s always loved helping me in my room because Mr. Ford (my next-door-neighbor) had wonderful “soul rolls.” His laugh, his kindness, and his concern for his students will be remembered by so many.

  113. Obviously, based on the number of entries in this guestbook, Mr. Ford inspired many during his long successful career as a teacher. He certainly had a positive impact on me during the time that I sat in his class, and afterward as well. There are several great stories of hilarious incidents that occured in his class that I continue to relate to people more than 20 years later in an attempt to share some laughter. Mr. Ford’s passion for teaching, his infectious laugh, and his ability to infuse humor into the hallways, classroom and lessons were the characteristics that made him a truly unique and inspiring educator. May God rest your SOUL Mr. Ford and bring peace to your family and those that loved you. ‘Mr. Hammer’ Class of ’86

  114. I did not go to Clark high school, but I had a friend who had Mr. Ford as a teacher, and so I thought that I would give my condolences. I’m sorry for your loss, and I hope that God gives you comfort in this time of tragedy.

  115. Mr Ford from the first moment I walked into your classroom I knew you were different from all the rest of the teachers. you took pride in teaching and it was obvious your students were your life. I look back when Robert and I had your class and remember us sitting in the back… you would tell the other students not to bother us because we are on “our date”. Then you would laugh your unforgetable laugh. Mr. Ford we love you and you will never be forgotten. ALWAYS, Robert and Elissa Hernandez

  116. It is a celebration for Mr Ford into Heaven!!! We can only imagine how much peace he feels.. we hear have the sorrow, but we should be truely joyful for him.. you are a character Mr Ford… I am sure everyone knew when you arrived with that rolling laugh… God Bless You!!! Dawn Rolen class 86

  117. Regardless of all else, Mr. Ford was an excellent teacher and an inspiration to many. He, and his tootsie rolls of encouragement, will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by not just those he directly influenced as teacher, but by all those who have heard his past students recount tales of him with such joy, even years after their graduation. -Jacob Hurst Class of 1999

  123. I never had the honor to have Mr. Ford as a teacher. Even so, I’ll never forget the greatness that was Mr. Ford. I’ll never forget seeing him every morning on one of his oh-so-famous walks. It didn’t matter if you were in his class or not, you knew who he was. If you were even on the same floor during passing periods, you could hear his laughter as he stood outside his door to greet everyone with a smile or kind word. It is a rare thing for one person to Directly affrect so many lives in a positive way. Mr Ford pulled it off wonderfully. To his momma: you did a wonderful job with this man. Thank you from all of us. Lauren Geiger c/o 2001

  124. I had Mr. Ford senior year and I was glad that I had him. I would always hear him laughing in the hallways and saw how everyone would say hi to him in-between classes, he would always yell “hey bud!”. Im sad that hes gone, and that I never went back after graduating to visit him and to get a soul roll, But im proud to say I had him as a teacher, and that I atleast got to know him and I remember practically everything that happened in that class, it was great starting off the day with Mr. Ford (1st Period 2000)

  125. I will never forget how excited I was to find out that Mr. Ford would be my English II teacher. Everyone told me how great he was, but no one told me what an effect he would have on me. I absolutely LOVED English because of Mr. Ford. My heart hurts to know that such a fabulous man will not be able to influence students ever again. This is a great loss, and he will be truly missed. I am thankful that I was blessed to know him. To this day, I share stories about his class, and I will continue to do so. I’ll never forget you, Mr. Ford. You are the best! Class of ’87

  126. I never had the opportunity to be in your class but some of my friends were and you never sent me to the office when I was skipping and hanging out and I told you it was my lunch hour. You just rumbled that infamous laugh and let me be. My brother and I argue over who can impersonate your laugh better. (im sure its me!) I’ll never forget seeing you on your daily walk every morning on my drive to school. Even after I graduated I could always count on saying hello in the morning from my car as I passed you by on DeZavala. Clark will NEVER be the same without you. You will be dearly missed. Heaven is so lucky to have such a wonderful person! class of 2004

  127. Mr. Ford, We were never formally introduced, but you knew I was the Acosta childrens mom, and every time you saw me, I was greated with a boisterous hello and a big smile. My children admired you greatly and speak of you affectionately. I asked all 3 of my children to tell me one thing they thought of when I said your name, and all 3 of them said “your laughter”. Needless to say, you left a great impression on them. May you have eternal peace. Meghan 2002 Peter 2003 Chelsea 2005

  128. Mr. Tommy Ford was a great teacher. Always had a smile on his face never seemed upset or angry. I can not believe he would do anything to hinder his career, he enjoyed teaching too much. He will be greatly missed.

  129. He will be missed by his laughter and his humor towards the students at Clark High School. He put a smile on every student that walked into and out of his classroom. Mr. Ford always had advice that lead the students in the right direction. He will be in his familys and every students heart forever. May he Rest In Peace.

  130. My condolences to the family of Mr. Ford. It is overwhelming to see the sense of community of Clark High School. I am just beginning to understand the Clark Mystique.

  131. As a CHS graduate (1981), I was surprised to hear of the passing of Mr. Ford. As many others have stated, I did not have Mr. Ford as an instructor, however, I did have the opportunity of knowing him, and he was one of a kind (in a good way). Even after 25 years, to hear that Mr. Ford was still teaching, English, I was amazed. Mr. Ford was one that even though I did not have him for a class, I still asked about him with 3 out of 4, of my children who attended Clark. Everything I have read in this guestbook reminds me of man I met 25 years ago. Mr. Ford, you may not be here with us now, but your memories will be with us forever.

  132. mr. ford i never had the honor of sitting in one of your class rooms but i always saw you in the hall and throughout the building and everytime i saw u everyday i walked passed you you were always smiling and laughing! i know as well as we all do that u were falsely accussed and its a shame that we had to lose such a great teacher that loved and charished what we did thanks for always being the one teacher that could always make us laugh even when we were in the worst mood! R.I.P sincerly, bryan martinez

  133. My paryers to the family of Mr. Ford. He was the best teacher I ever had. The halls of Clark will be empty without his wonderful laugh. RIP Mr. Ford. Class of 1988

  134. Mr. Ford was one of the most generous, amazing teachers at Clark although I didn’t get the opportunity to have him as one of my teachers I might as well have. My senior year I was lucky enough to speak to him everyday before my 3rd period class he was always in a good mood cheerful and smiling constantly even when I wasn’t in the best mood he knew how to make me smile or even with that contagious laugh of his crack up for almost no reason. I wasn’t the only one either it was like he knew everyone by name greeting, joking with every student who passed by in the hallway. he had a way of just brighten up everyone’s day. He truly will be missed, and never forgotten. We are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful teacher at Clark! Rip Mr. Ford I know your only making more people laugh up there! Thank for letting me be one of the lucky ones! Much love to his family. You’re in my prayers -Diana Class of ’06

  135. I work at a store Mr.Ford would come to and he has been one of my customers for almost two years now and I remember the first time I heard him laugh I thought he was just playing around but then he came the next time and I realized when he laughed again that he wasn’nt and that was his real laugh. There won’t be a next time and sadly I can’t put my finger on the last time, but I will remember it always and will miss his laugh and wonderful smile that went with it. So sorry for everyone’s loss. We will miss him.

  136. Mr. Ford was definately the all around best teacher at Clark High School. He was great to be around, fun loving, humorous, and everything else wonderful you can think of. I didn’t even have him as a teacher, but I know how great he was just from talking to him in the hallways. I will be praying for him and his family. He will be missed dearly.

  137. The best year at Clark was our Senior year and Mr. Ford was the best part. I can remember sitting in class together with Mr. Ford calling Jacob Tootall and Jackie Soul Sister. He always passed out Soul Rolls for good deeds, and never stopped laughing. He is the reason I am becoming a teacher. He helped so many even if he never answered a question straight on, he would think it over and answer with another question. I think every student should have had him as a teacher and I’m sad that my brother will not. He would have been one of the first people on our wedding list. I love you Mr. Ford. ~Whitt~ I have never encountered a teacher like you, Mr. Ford, and I doubt that I ever will. You poured your heart into your work and your students and managed to touch each and every one of us. Every student that has known you is better for it. You will be greatly missed, oh King of Soul Rolls. Goodbye, Mr. Ford. –Tootall We will miss him tremendously, as will everyone else who was touched by him. God bless you Mr. Ford Class of 2005

  138. I never had Mr. Ford as a teacher. However, I did have friends and family who took his class. They were always talking about how great his class was. Although I only met Mr. Ford a few times I know he will be missed. He was a very nice and outgoing person. Rest in peace.

  139. Mr. Ford was truly a great teacher! His passion for education was evident and made his classroom a great experience. I have never looked at a “soul roll” without thinking of him & his joyous laugh. Very few teachers maintain a passion for teaching with such infectious joy! I was in the grocery store 2 years ago and heard that incredible laugh, as I turned the corner – there he was – the infamous Mr. Ford. I enjoyed seeing him that day & have thought of him often over the past 12 years. Thank you Mr. Ford for dedicating your life to education and for taking the time to make a difference in my life! Clark H.S. has lost one of its BEST! I continue to pray for the friends & family of Mr. Ford and his current students. I pray that you each seek comfort and peace through our savior, The Lord Jesus Christ! Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Class of ’94

  140. You will never be forgotten, Mr. Ford. I know they are enjoying your laugh in Heaven. We will miss you!

  141. I had the pleasure of working at Clark for 24 years. I remember talking to Tommy when I lost my mother. He was so supportive and, shared how he loved and cared for his mother so much. I talked with him about retire/rehire and we knew we both wanted to continue teaching. I continued working at O Connor High School. I started Reese’s treats for Ruiz and obtained that idea from Tommy. I can still hear his laugh and quickly turn around and I knew it was Tommy. I remember always seeing him walking early in the morning with a loaf of French bread. I would always park my car next to his Mustang and wondered how he could see out his windows with all those travel stickers. He loved his job. I will keep his family in my prayers. We will miss you, Tommy. Sincerely, Celia Ruiz

  142. Mr. Ford was a fabulous teacher that motivated his student to want to learn. I had the pleasure to be in one of his classes 15 years ago and can remember it like it was yesterday with his soul rolls and watching him dance on his desk are some of the best memories I have of Clark. RIP Mr. Ford

  144. A bright sunny day in Arizona. I was at the Scottsdale Fashion Square with my friends watching a runway show. Then I got a phone call about Mr Ford. Suddenly I was remembering him…High School was a little tough on me. I had three amazing teachers that helped me get through some bad times, Mr Ford was one of those teachers. He always had a minute or two just to ask how i was doing, then he would tell me a joke, then he’d laugh out loud and make me smile, his laugh alone was addicting. I’m not even sure he knew I was secretly laughing at his corny jokes and at the sound of his laugh. Over the years i’ve changed alot, and i’m happy. My highschool memories weren’t the greatest but I never told him He made some bad days easier… I can’t help but smile when I think about him…I will always remember his laugh. *Thank you MR Ford* *god bless* Bryan C. Hall (class of 2002) *

  146. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Ford for English and have thought of him and his contagious, booming laugh so many times over the past 20 years! It is impossible to think of him and not smile because that is what he made everyone do. It didn’t matter what mood you were in ~ if you saw Mr. Ford, a ray of sunshine brightened your day. I know he impacted so many people in so many ways, as a teacher and a friend. I truly feel blessed to have known Mr. Ford and I am so deeply saddened by his passing. Class of ‘88

  147. Although I was never fortunate enough to have Mr. Ford as a teacher my brother was. He had him this past year and never had anything but amazing things to say about him. I remember when I was at Clark, hearing that laugh down the halls would just crack me up. It was infectious. My brother recently told me to try and imagine Mr. Ford’s laugh as if you were sitting in the front row of his classroom… That is where my brother sat everyday. My thoughts go out to his mother and his students and anyone who ever heard his fabulous laugh. It will be missed. Rest in peace Mr. Ford! -Teresa class of ’05 and Thomas class of ’07

For those of you who had him as a teacher, or wished you had him as a teacher, you know what i mean when i say that Mr. ford was the most unique and joyful teacher at clark high school. his laugh was a legend, something you could hear ringing in the halls. i loved his lease on life, and his brief case with all the stickers from places he’d been. when i think of him, i see the brief case, the loaf of bread, and a big smile. REST IN PEACE MR. FORD

  150. Mr. Ford was my English teacher in 03. He made class fun for everyone. Mr. Ford was a great guy. I will never forget him. He called me, “Too Tall.”

  151. Thank you Mr. Ford. Thank you for your joy of teaching. Thank you for your contagious laughter. Thank you for the time God has given you to spend with us here on Earth. Thank you for you. And that means a world to everyone who knew you. We will miss you dearly. Though you may have gone from our sight you live on in each of us. Rest in peace Mr. Ford. My heart goes out to Mrs. Ford. Thank you for raising a wonderful son who has touched so many lives with his inspiration and joy. “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” – William Arthur Ward Class of ’94

  152. Mr.Ford you were a great teacher, and will be missed. God bless your family as they go through this hardship.

  153. I was a student of Mr. Ford’s in 1985. He was my 10th grade English teacher, and he encouraged this confused, awkward, socially backward girl to pursue her dream of writing. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English my Junior year, thanks to his encouragement. I am sorry for the family’s loss. Mr. Ford had a way that always made us laugh, and I looked forward to his class. Second Period. RIP, Mr. Ford

  154. “I hope I get Mr.Ford next year.” This was a common phrase I would hear my students say while I was a Spanish teacher at Clark High School. He made everyone smile and I can still hear his contagious laugh. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Mrs. Ford. Your son is an inspiration to us all.

  155. I am sad to see such an inspiring teacher and leader leave our world. Mr. Ford challenged students and always made school fun. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have Mr. Ford as a teacher, but have never looked at a tootsie roll the same since my first few days in that building at Clark High School. Mr. Ford, thank you for inspiring students that may have difficulty being inspired to take great leaps in their life. Rest in peace.

  156. I will never forget gathering up my friends at the end of school before the theatre play rehearsals to “go see mr ford!” we would always go in there everyday and he would be sitting there just smiling with his shoes off on the desk. i will never forget when we made mr ford a different “pimp cane” so he didnt have to use his tree branch, he was just laughing. mr ford was so amazing. i could sit there and just talk to him for hours and never worry about anythig else. he was the most amazing teacher i have EVER had. you will be missed terribly mr ford-and “we will see you tommorow!”

  157. I (class of 90)first met Mr Ford when I was a Seventh grader. My older brother(class of 84) and his friends took me up there to his class on the last day of school and introduced me to him, my brother said “Mr Ford this is my bro he will be coming her in a couple of years take care of him”. Two years later I am at Clark and he remembered me and the time I went up there. From then on for the next four years he would always act like my best friend and always made me and my friends laugh.Thats what made him great, he treated everyone like that. My son will be attending Clark next year and I told him he missed out on an awesome teacher. May GOD be with you and watch over your family in this very sad time. God Bless and we all will be seeing you again Mr Ford. Save us a “Soul Roll”!!

  158. I had the honor of sharing laughs with Mr. Ford, and it is a memory I will always cherish. I thank you for that! God bless.

  159. Although I never had Mr. Ford as a teacher, I heard his name throughout the halls and wished I did know him. Even without coming face to face, I knew his distinct laugh and looked forward to it everyday. I knew every time I heard that laugh I would hear a story about something that he has taught one of my friends and I was often jealous because I didn’t have these stories. I know without knowing that he was and still is one of the greatest men that anyone could know. my best wishes and deepest prayers for you and your family. You should be proud. Tricia Stevens Class of 2000

  160. TO ALL, I say all because in one way or another we all are mourning the death of this amazing man. As I read through some of the guestbook I have similar memories. Of course we all will remember his wonderful laugh and his “Soul Rolls”, and we all remember the 5.0 sitting at the very end of the parking lot. But some of our memories are more personal. I remember Mr Ford saying “Theres never anything too tough for you to do till you quit trying” This was right after I foung out I was pregnant in my junior year. Thanks to his words of wisdom and Mr Brandenburg homeschooling me, I got through that year. Mrs. Ford, Your son will always have a special place in many hearts and will never be forgotten! You have every reason in the world to be PROUD! Jennifer jenafersatx@sbcglobal.net

  163. Mr. Ford will forever be remembered as one of the greatest teachers of Tom C. Clark. He was certainly the most loved by the all the students. Sadly, I was unfortunate and never had the pleasure of having Mr. Ford for a class. However, I miss his laughs and antics in the hallways everyday. I miss his warm and kind smile when he would say “Hello”. He remembered everybody’s name and made all of us feel special. His warm personality always brightened our days. He was a great man with a big heart. This world needs more teachers like Mr. Ford. He was truly one of a kind and will always be remembered as one of those teachers that had the biggest influence in our lives, one like we only see in the movies. Tom C. Clark High School will never be the same without Mr. Ford. He was an inspiration to many of us and his honor will forever live on. Shervin Nooshin – Class of 1994

  164. Ms. Ford, My son and I are relatively new to San Antonio, and to Clark. Trevor (my son) has dyslexia, and this was overlooked by Clark. His papers were filed away, then not passed out to the teachers after being reminded. I ended up meeting with several of his teachers; Mr. Ford was the first teacher to meet. I went into the meeting angry and disillusioned by the school; I left the meeting laughing, and feeling like my son had a confidant. I cannot tell you how sad I am that my son’s confidant is gone. I felt better about Trevor being at Clark simply because Mr. Ford was there. While our grief cannot compare to yours, our hearts are sad. Thank you for allowing us to say goodbye yesterday. I want you to know that many people stood outside in the cold and rain waiting for the packed chapel to clear, and there were multiple tributes. Your son was a special man with an incredibly infectious laugh. Sincerely, Kristi Esta

  165. Mr. Ford, you will be so missed. You were a true asset to Clark HS and to the entire student body. You influenced me more than you will ever know.

  166. Mr. Ford was everything a teacher should be and more. He treated his students and those who were not his students with respect. They in turn respected and loved the man he was. We are so much better for having had him as an influence in our lives and the lives of our children. I am a parent of one of Mr. Ford’s former students and am proud to have known Mr. Ford. The last time I saw and spoke with Mr. Ford we were off campus voting absentee. When I reminded him who I was, he made a point to stop me before I left to tell me how much he thought of my son and what a good person my son is. Oh how I wish we could tell him now how good a teacher and person he was to everyone. God bless you Mr. Ford. We will miss you.

  167. The memory of your laugh will fill the halls and minds of Clark forever. You are a true treasure. I will miss you, Tommy.

  168. I am proud to say I was taught by this wonderful man. Mr. Ford was the only teacher I looked forward to seeing every day at Clark High School not for the soul rolls but for that beautiful smile and unforgetable laugh. My hart goes out to his family and friends for this incredible loss. Thank you,Mr. Ford, for your wonderful teachings and your beautiful heart. You will be sorely missed. Alyssa (Duggan) Cook Class of 1994

  169. Mr. Ford was the most awesome teacher a Clark High School. I never got the chance to know him as much as other kids did, but the first time I met him I knew that he was really loved by many. I hope that with his passing will come comfort to the rest of us because he’s in a better place now. Knowing that he died without him understanding how greatly he was revered, maybe we can take the time to show the others in our lives what they mean to us before it’s too late.

  170. Mrs. Ford, Although no words can take away the sorrow that you bear, may it be comforting to you to know that others care. There is not another smile or joyous laugh that can replace Tommy’s. Working with him at Clark H.S. for many years will remain in my memory forever. God bless you!

  171. Mr. Ford will always be remembered at Clark high school, I honestly think he was one of the main reasons, lots of kids would get up in the morning and go to school,he was an inspiration to many, he always brightened everyones day with his one of a kind laughter.I never had Mr. Ford for any classes, but my freshman year, i would always ask to go to the restroom in 5th period, because he was just three classes down and hed always help me with my work, he’s one of the main reasons I passed history that year, and I will always remember the music of Sades-“Smooth Operator” playing as I walked by his clasroom. Rest in Peace Mr Ford,it was a privilege to know you, your memory will live forever @ Clark High School.

  173. mr.ford was dearly loved and cherished by everyone that knew him.He only knew me as the cafeteria lady that served him enchaladas every wed. but i was also the mother of 2 daughters that had him as a teacher.both of my daughters have felt a terrible loss as everyone that knew him. We will all miss this great man, teacher, role model and a true caring friend. WE WERE SO BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM!!!

  174. My brother Jason and I both had the privelage of being in Mr.Fords class. He was one of the best teachers at Clark and he will be deeply missed. Clark will not be the same without him. I can still hear his laugh! R.I.P. Mr.Ford

  175. We deeply regret this unbearable loss and beg you to convey our regards to his mother. We truly enjoyed and valued Tommy’s friendship and for me (Debbi) the privilege of working with him. We hold the warmest feelings for him, over and above the respect he commanded as an intellectual and a leader. Since we have known him, he has always been the generous, full of life, engaging and deeply humane being you can only love and appreciate having as a friend and a colleague. His bright mind and great heart are a shining example of what humanity is about. So, we grieve with you. He was a vital and wonderful man who will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

  176. mr.ford its going to be alot different at school now not hearing your amazing laugh everyday and having conversations with you any more you were a remarkable person. And to the ford family my prayers are with you we lost an incredible man who touched many lives rest in peace soul brotha

  177. “Teaching is truth mediated by personality.” Mr. Ford was the epitome of this account and will be forever missed by many.

  178. Mr.Ford is a great teacher and friend,he was vary understanding about my learning disablities and had alot of pataints with me. He showed me things by acting them out other then writing it on paper. I soon understood that he was not like other teachers.Mr. Ford also taught me never to be ashamed and to try my best at everything I do. I never wanted any one to know I had difficulties, but he always said, “OOOH NOOO!” He truly made a difference in my life and i will miss him deeply. -Alex Sanchez class 04

  179. Mrs. Ford I worked with Tommy for many years. He was always a ray of sunshine. I am so sorry for your loss.

  180. Mr. Ford’s love of teaching and his positive influence will always be remembered. As a Clark alum, I send my deepest regrets to his family and friends, with the assurance that I hold him in the highest regard.

  181. I had the honor of knowing Tommy from the beginning of Clark. He was one of the first teachers hired and was always a pleasure to work with. His smile would brighten the day. I know he had a great impact on many students. We are all sorry for your loss and for Clark’s loss, as well. My prayers are with you and your family.

  182. I’M SO SORRY THAT IT HAD TO TAKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HURT THE ONES YOU LOVE. I HAD MR.FORD FOR ENGLISH HE WAS A VERY LOUD AND HAPPY PERSON.HE ALWAYS TOLD ME NOT TO QUIT,BECAUSE IT WOULD BE HARD FOR ME IN LIFE TO GIVE UP.I GRATUATED IN 1989.AND IF I COULD I WOULD HAVE MR. FORD FOR ALL MY 6 CLASSES. AGAIN MY SINCERE GRATITUDE, AND CONDOLENCES. ANNA DE LA CRUZ

  183. My deepest and most sincere condolences to the Ford family. Mr. Ford was one of the greatest teachers that I ever had the privilege of learning from. His uproarious laughter always delighted me, and I’ll never forget the twinkle of warm humor in his eyes. I will also remember discussing John Grisham novels with Mr. Ford, and listening intently to his opinion about them. I know that we will meet again one day, Mr. Ford, but until then I will say farewell, and thank you for touching my life.

  184. I have been a friend of Tommy since we taught together in the early 703 at Sam Rayburn. I also have helped Tommy with his investments for a number of years. Please contact me at (210)695-9112 about these investments. I was very sorry to read about Tommy’s death and will miss his friendship. My condolences to the family.

  185. Tommy was a classmate of mine at Highlands High School, Class of 1964. I don’t think he attended any of our class reunions until 2004. I had a nice opportunity to visit with him and really enjoyed our talk. He took many pictures of our classmates and seemed to have a very nice time. He as always smiling. He will be missed by myself and many of our classmates. I would like to give my condolence to his mother, Clara. My heart is broken for you and I will keep you in my prayers. The Lord knows our sorrows and comforts us. God bless you, Bonnie

  186. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Ford’s family and close friends. I am so sorry for your loss. I was very fortunate to be a student of Mr. Ford’s. I remember all of my friends being so envious that I had such a “cool” teacher. I would come out of class speaking of all the fun things we had done, and they would just look at me – eyes glazed over from another boring lecture or another set of worksheets. I remember knowing, even at that young age, that Mr. Ford was something special in the teaching world. He made you want to learn. You always wanted Mr. Ford’s class to go on a little bit longer than it did. I can remember him making the football players read the parts of the females in the Shakespeare plays that we were studying. (Now that’s entertainment!) I owe my extensive vocabulary to Mr. Ford. He would give us twenty words every week to learn. To this day, when there is a storm approaching, I cannot help but smile and state, “The sky looks ominous.” – which was one of the words on the first list he ever gave to us. I remember “Spirit Pills” (Peanut M&Ms) before every football game, “Spunk Chunks” (caramels) for when we seemed a bit sluggish, and the ever famous, “Soul Rolls” (Tootsie Rolls) taken in hopes of becoming as cool as Mr. Ford. I had never had a teacher like Mr. Ford, and would never have another one like him. He was one of a kind! I went to college to become a teacher myself. While at SWTSU, one of my professors assigned us the task of interviewing a teacher we thought had made a difference in our lives. Naturally, I went to Mr. Ford. He was so gracious to see me during his conference period. (A most coveted time to teachers!) I told him how influential he had been to me. Ever so humble, he told me that he found that hard to believe, but that he was glad I had thought of him in that way. He truly shaped the way I would teach. I was determined to make learning fun for my students the way he had made learning fun for me. (Trust me, if you can make high school English fun, you are talented beyond measure!) I will never forget Mr. Ford. I will always remember him as a wonderful teacher with a great smile, and an even better laugh. I will never be able to think of Mr. Ford and not smile myself. What a loss that he is no longer able to give to others what he gave to so many. One of my favorite quotes goes like this: “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” May I say, from the bottom of my heart, Mr. Ford made the difference in a lot of children’s lives. God Bless Mr. Ford! Patti Poorter Sampson Class of 1980

  187. Ms. Ford, Mr. Ford was a pleasure to know. His laugh was infectious and his teaching was legendary. He will be missed deeply. May God bless you and comfort you. Sincerely, Brandy,Charles, and Penny Holdridge Class of 1992,1996, and 1999

  188. I had Mr. Ford my junior year of HS. He was a true inspiration of the human spirit and had a heart of gold. No matter how well or little you know him, he had a lasting effect on your life. I can still to this day remember his laugh. Such a hearty, happy and genuine laugh that makes you feel alive. I will dearly miss him.

  189. Mr. Ford touched the lives of so many, teachers and students. He will truly be missed. My sincere condolences to Mr. Ford’s mother.

  190. Class of ’99 will always love Mr. Ford & never forget you! Thank you for the smiles & laughs! You were a wonderful teacher and mentor.

  191. Throughout so many years of school only a few teachers stand out…none like Mr. Ford. There are things I cannot remember about professors I had in college a few years back. I remember everything about Mr. Ford and that was 10 years ago. The soul rolls, the laugh, the genuine kindness that so many people take for granted. If we could only have more teachers like Mr. Ford when we are growing up through the most difficult years of our lives…maybe those years wouldn’t be so difficult. The shock and the pain is overwhelming to all of us who knew Mr. Ford. My sincere condolences to the Ford family, and the Clark HS family as well. Our hero is in a better place now. He will always be remembered. We miss you Mr. Ford. Class of ’98.

  192. My sincere condolences to the Ford Family. Someone once said that a person has succeeded in life if they have made just one person laugh. Mr. Ford did just that thousands of times over. When people remember their years at Clark High, Mr. Ford’s name is ALWAYS mentioned. Bryan Schroeder Class of 1985

  193. Mr Ford was definately my absolute favorite teacher at Clark. I remember not a day would go by my senior year without us ending our walks to school together. Even after my graduation in 2002, I would visit Clark on the first day of school of the new year to visit friends and teachers and Mr. Ford would welcome me with a soul roll and a smile. He and I used to chat for hours about Broadway Musicals. Mr Ford is my inspiration for wanting to become an English Teacher. He is sorely missed and immensly loved. -Mary Northrup

  194. I worked with Tommy at Marshall H.S. I remember him fondly. May God give you peace and comfort now and always. Don Kahl, retired Guidance Counselor

  195. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of need. I could not be there in person to pay my respects to this great man. I did not have the joy of Mr. Ford as a teacher, but I am blessed to have known such a wonderful soul. He never knew my name, but he didn’t care, everyday when he saw me sitting alone, he’d come over and greet me as though I was a good friend he had not seen in years. Everyone knew who Mr. Ford was, it could have been your first day on campus, but by the end of the day, you knew who he was. He’d strike up a conversation with anyone, and wheither you liked it or not, he was going to brighten up your day. He was kind, loving and passionate about his teaching career. He had a way of picking up anyone when they were down. Just hearing his hearty laugh was enough to make anyone feel good. My friend Lauren M. said, “I was in the hallway working on a project and Mr. Ford came along and asked what I was doing and if I needed any help on it.” He didn’t know what subject it was, but he was willing to help a person with anything without asking for something in return. He was a “one in a million”. It’s not everyday a person will talk to you for no reason. Mr. Ford talked to you because he cared. It’s not everyday you see an angel, but I saw one everyday for four years. We love you Mr. Ford, I appreciate every little conversation we had. We will never forget you. – Pastor Jon Garza Class of 2005

  196. Mrs. Ford, I am offering my condolenses on the loss of Mr. Ford. He was a well respected teacher and was very fun loving. I heard about the loss on December 31, 2006. My friend and I were very much tormented with his passing. She was a student of hisabout 10 years ago. I remember him because of his white ford mustang with all the stickers on it. Again, my condolenses. Regards, Sapphirra Ibarra

  197. My deepest condolences to the Ford Family and to all who loved him. Mr Ford was one of the BEST teachers, also one of a kind. The day I found out the first thing that came to mind was that laugh, then of course the legedary “Soul Rolls” if you knew Mr. Ford you knew they went hand and hand. I pray that God keeps him near and that he heels all who loved him so. It is so hard to lose such a wonderful teacher, role model, FRIEND. Mr Ford you will be missed, but never forgotten. Class of 1996

  198. To Mrs. Ford and family, Both my son and daughter had classes with your son and both spoke very highly of Mr. Ford. I would get a big kick out of Mr. Ford when I went to all of the open houses each year and even when I just had to go up to Clark I would see Mr. Ford in the hall way and we would laugh and talk. One time I had cooked and my daughter was talking about it in class to one of her friends and Mr. Ford said something like, I would like to taste that cooking. So the next time I prepared a full meal I sent by my daughter, a tip top filled togo container and my daughter said he eat it at his desk. He said it was to go to save for home. Mr. Ford was a fun person to be around. My son had what was called ARD meetings and every meeting Mr. Ford sat without the whole meeting. Mr Ford got a sub for his class room so he could stay in the meetings. I said that is a teacher who cares. I say to you Mrs. Ford, hold you head up and ask God for help and understanding. I say only three people know the truth and that’s God, your son and the young man. I don’t know what your going thru I could not say how I would handle it if it was me. The one thing I do know is the Mr. Ford I knew, the years my kids attended Clark would not do what has been said he did. General people (people that do not know Mr. Ford) say by taking his life it makes him guilty. I and others agree with me that on the other hand Mr. Ford was in shock and reacted without thinking. I believe he was thinking that some people will get their own thoughts and he will be looked down on the rest of his life. Since the day my daughter told me about it (she got the call from her son’s godmother) I think back on the times I and Mr. Ford met for open house, and class meetings, I today, still say he did not do it. God Bless You and your family For Ever and a Day. Cathy Jo Dednam

  199. MY DAUGHTERS ANGELICA AND AMANDA CARRIZALES BOTH ATTEND CLARK HIGH. THEY WERE VERT SADDENED BY THE PASSING OF MR FORD. WE WOULD JUST LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED AND WAS WELL THOUGHT OF. OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY.

  200. Another angel has been granted it’s wings…Mr. Ford’s will be missed for many years to come. His voice, his laughter, his sense of pure happiness no matter what the issue. Yet, he is up above, with all the other angels just like himself. There was never a day you would pass him by without a huge smile, or a joyful “hello”. I can always remember all my friends wishing they were going to get Mr. Ford for the next year. His happiness was addictive, a true happiness that everyone admired! He was a wonderful leader, motivator, and person. He will truly be missed forever. May god bless all his family. Casey- c/o 2002 Danielle- c/o 2003 Nikki- c/o 2005

  203. Mr. Ford, your happiness and laughter made this world such a better place. What you did at Clark H.S. can not be matched. The energy you brought to the classroom was felt and your presence was even felt for those who never had you as an instructor (including myself). I’ve learned how to be a happier person because of you, and I think that is something that few will ever be able to teach. Thank you Mr. Ford.

  204. MR Ford was a great teacher. I will never forget his laugh. I would be able to hear him down the hall and knew that was MR. Ford. Ill never forget you Mr Ford. I cant wait for the day when ill see you again. I give my condolences to all his family.

  206. The most wasted of all days is one without laughter —E. E. Cummings Mr. Ford never wasted a day of his life as I remember his classic laugh echoing throughout the halls of Clark. His spirit and legacy shall never be forgotten. Rest In Peace My Friend.

  207. The most wasted of all days is one without laughter —E. E. Cummings Mr. Ford never wasted a day of his life as I remember his classic laugh echoing throughout the halls of Clark. His spirit and legacy shall never be forgotten. Rest In Peace My Friend.

  208. I was very privledged to be one of Mr. Ford’s students back in 1995. Mr. Ford was a wonderful person and a great teacher. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. May God continue to help you through this time. I will never forget Mr. Ford’s smile and always up beat personality. He will be missed. God Bless.

  209. Our son had Mr Ford for his teacher and loved his class if it wouldn’t have been for him he might not have finished school Mr Ford made English fun for him as he didn’t like it. Our daughter didn’t get to enjoy him for a teacher but she knew him and thought of him as a great teacher. He was always jolly and friendly to all. We will never forget his soul rolls. I saw him in the mornings as I took the kids to school walking to school with his french bread. He will be missed. Mom you raised a great son. God bless the family.

  210. The Earth has lost a great person, and the Heavens have gained a soul of greatness. Mr. Ford was truly a master of his craft and could bring a smile to anyone. He will be missed for years to come. My prayers go out to the family and friends.

  211. Like many that have written before me I never had the pleasure of having Mr. Ford as a teacher, though I was extremely jealous of those who did. But he brightened every morning for me and many others with his boisterous laugh and jubilant joy. I will always remember his stickered-up 5.0 GT Mustang in the back of the lot, his morning walks to school-no matter how many times me and my friends tried to pick him up to give him a ride he would also smile and say it was a beautiful day to walk-even if it was an overcast gray day. I will always hold dear to my heart this Angel that graced my life and preserve his honor in my mind as one of the greatest most honorable men that has graced this earth regardless of this unfortunate tradegy. My heart and prayers go out to the Ford family-may God bring you peace and the same joy that Mr. Ford bestowed upon me and countless others. Kim Menhennett Class of 2000

  212. I attended Clark High School from 1981-1985. I had Mr. Ford for both Freshman and Sophomore English. I was shocked when I heard of his passing. He was the most outgoing, caring, and ‘full of life’ teacher I ever had. Back in my day, he called Tootsie Rolls, ‘Aunt Jamima Bars’, and during the Romeo and Juliet segments of our class, passed out ‘styrofoam cup awards’ to the students who portrayed characters. I will never forget him. God Bless You Mr. Ford, you will be missed.

  213. mr.ford was the best teacher that i had at clark if it wasn’t for him and his postive attiude i don’t think i would have graduated from high school he will always be in my thoughts and heart may god bless him and have a very happy afterlife mr.ford i will miss you very much with love and peace liz

  214. My daughter was your student for two years Mr.Ford and gained a deep appreciation for the English language, writing, and communication because of your positive influence. Today too many of our teachers and students don’t take the time to appreciate English and its written word for the beauty if truly is.My daughter gained skillful writing abilities due to your influence.I wish you had someone with you during your time of pain and suffering to encourage you as much as you encouraged your students and their parents.I will pray for your soul that it will rest in the full glories of heaven. M.Leal, parent Two students at CHS–1983-1985

  215. I will always cherish Mr. Ford and the memories of him at Clark. Everytime I saw him in the halls he was smiling and laughing. His upbeat attitude will be greatly missed. His laughter made you want to be lucky enough for him to be your teacher. He was an incredible spirit with a truely unique gift to make everyone smile and feel happy to be in his presence. God Bless Mr. Ford. <

  216. It is amazing how a teacher’s sense of humor can impact the enthusiasm of the students. One day in class several students were throwing paper airplanes across the room while Mr. Ford was talking. After awhile, Mr. Ford picked up one of the airplanes off the floor and said “Its not a good idea to throw paper airplanes while the window is open, because they might go out the window.” He then threw the airplane out the window and began laughing, which made the whole class break out into laughter. Mr. Ford was the best at his job because of his humor and the fact that he gained the respect of every student, not just those in his class. Bryan Schroeder class of 1985

  217. Mr. Ford was the best English teacher I ever had! I will always remember him, I always looked forward to his class! My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

  218. After 13 years of school and 20 years after leaving Clark there are only a very few names I can remember. Mr. Ford would be at the top of that short list for all the reasons previously stated by others and then some. There aren’t enough words to express my condolences and sorrow. The world is a little darker, a little worse off without him.

  219. To Mr.Ford’s family…my condolences…Mr.Ford was a loving and caring teacher, and always put a smile on anyone’s face…he will be missed…

  220. I graduated from Clark in 2000. And even though I never had a class with him. I always remembered how he was always optimistic I could talk to him in the halls and say good morning and he would ask me how my day was. I strongly believe he was the example that a teacher should be. And I am truly saddened by this loss. I only wanted you to know that. Mr Ford was a great teacher, he was more than just a teacher he was a friend and I still look up to him to this day.

  221. Mr Ford was a wise man. He helped through my years at Clark High School by his praising words and his wonderful soul rolls. He will be missed by all his students that he has come in contact with. Missin you and I will see you when I get there.

  222. I graduated from Clark H.S. in 1988 and had Mr. Ford for English. He always made me laugh and I loved his laugh!! To me he sounded like Santa Claus…and I remember him wearing a santa hat before the Christmas holidays and he passed out tootsie “Soul” rolls and would laugh his santa laugh. As years passed by I would still visit him at Clark and I would see him walking up and down DeZavala Rd. I remember yelling his name every morning…and him raising his hand saying….”HEY”!! with a huge smile on his face. The last time I spoke to Mr Clark was right before I was going to get married and move to Oklahoma in 2004. I loved talking to him, he could always make me happy just by his smile and stories. Mr Ford will be missed and loved always!! I’m so sorry that I couldn’t make the services, but please know that he will always be in my thoughts and I will always have the memories. BE BLESSED!!

  223. I didnt have Mr. Ford as a teacher however, I did receive plenty of soul rolls in the halls of Clark… he will be dearly missed.

  224. I didn’t have the wonderful opportunity of having Mr. Ford as one of my teachers, but he was a terrific person and dear to my heart. He was fun to talk to and joke around with. I will miss him and his well-known laugh that could be recognized anywhere. Love, Sarah Pace Class of 2005

  225. Mr. Ford was a great teacher and an inspiration to all he came in contact with, his laugh was intoxicating, his SOUL ROLLS delicious but most of all he was the greatest English teacher anyone could ever have. For those of us that knew him he was easy to talk to and no matter how your day was going he always could brigten it up. With orange juice in one hand, candy in another and a smile on his face, he was someone you could count on to always be there. Mr. Ford will always be remembered and loved. Thank you Mrs.Ford for having brought such a wonderful man into this world and sharing him with us. We will miss him. Class of ’94

  226. Mr. Ford was a great teacher, and always had a positive attitude no matter how bad of a day Clark H.S. had. This is truly a monumental loss not just for his family, but for the students/faculty/family of Clark High School. May he rest in peace. My Condolences to all affected by this sad moment, and pause to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful memories that we have of Mr. Tommy Ford.

  227. I didn’t even have Mr. Ford as a teacher but he knew who I was. Goes to show you how friendly of a man he was. I’ll never forget meeting him, or his signature laugh, or his soul roll, soul pole, or soul sword. I attended his memorial service and I miss this man dearly. He was never in a bad mood, and he never failed to have a smile on his face every time I saw him. What a tragedy this entire situation is. Tommy Ford was an icon at Tom. C. Clark, and his legacy will surely live on inside and outside of Clark. We miss you Mr. Ford.

  228. Any teacher who can make high school English interesting and memorable to most of his students deserves a special award. Mr. Ford did this consistently and so much more. I hope the wonderful memories he left so many transcend in time the sadness. Maybe Mr. Ford is enjoying special holy “soul rolls” in Heaven right now as choirs of angels sing. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends and students who loved and miss him so.

  229. I graduated from Clark almost twenty years ago, and Mr. Ford was the teacher that i had always remembered most of all. It was his hilarious, fun personality that made him so memorable…Everyone who had him as a teacher always felt lucky, and the students who didnt were always envious because everyone knew what a cool, hilarious teacher he was! This news really made me sad… I hope he is in a better place because he sure deserves to be. God be with you Mr. Ford

  230. Ford was a awesome teacher he knew how to make us laugh even if you had a bad day he knew how to change your day he will be missed by many Eric

  231. Ford was a awesome teacher he knew how to make us laugh even if you had a bad day he knew how to change your day with all of his funny sayings such as hey bud , you want a soul roll , that’s not rated G he will be missed by many Love ,Bless Eric

  232. Thank you for so much for sharing your spirit and your knowledge to those who needed it most. The world has lost a kind soul.

  233. I didnt know you too well Mr. Ford but you were always very nice and showed respect to me. Sorry to hear the unfortunate news and I hope your in a better place now. Tamir

  234. I was never formally introduced to Mr. Ford, but i’ve always saw him during passing periods; he always make people so cheerful.I hope he has gone to a better place.

  235. I just found out about Mr Ford.He was the best teacher I ever had.It was the only class I looked forward to going to.He will always be remembered by me as the greatest teacher I ever had.R.I.P MR Ford

  236. I wasn’t a student of Mr. Ford, however, my english class was across from his two years in a row. I could always hear him asking if some passing student or student he’d talked with wanted a ‘SOUL-roll’ as he would say and he’d always say wel there you go and laugh and the whole class could hear him laugh and EVERYDAY the entire class would begin to giggle at the sound of his laugh. I’ll miss that laugh, even after high school he’s one of those meomires I would have to share to strangers, they would alway commit must have been some teacher, i reply with,’Why yes he was’. My thoughts a prayers are with you as you go through this, I charish those memories of Mr. Ford and I can’t believe a man with such a heart would feel the need to do such a thing. My the lord god heal and be with you as you grieve for such a powerful influence on so many young lives. My love to you all!

  237. When I think about all my family, friends, and classmates that I loved who have passed away this past year, Mr. Ford’s right at the top. I think about all of them everyday. During my prayers at night I thank the lord for everyone I know, and for everyone I have known, no matter if we lost contact, or if the lord called them home. Because, even though they are gone, they helped shape us into the people we are today. Even though we may cry while remembering our loved ones, we can’t forget them. Even though we morn their passing, we must celebrate thier lives. When my uncle passed away years ago, there was a rainbow during his funeral. During my grandmothers’ funeral there was a lone butterfly fluttering about. Even though we may feel like we’re not going to make it, or feel like nothing good is going to happen, we look up and see a rainbow or butterfly, and know everything is going to work out. The ones we love may no longer be with us, but they, along with God, watch over us and guide us through life. I posted a message on Jan. 7, 2007, and decided to post another a year later to show that Mr. Ford and all his friends and family are still in my heart. I plan to post another message in a year because, you can’t forget a person loved by so many. Pastor Jon Garza Class of 2005

  238. I was in his class the year this tragic event happened. All I can say is that this man was an angel. He touched so many people in ways that others could only imagine. Just to hear his laugh one more time…

  239. In viewing the paper today I was sad to read about the death of my former teacher Mr. Ford. When attending his class in the early 80’s I recall when we had to memorize a verse of Romeo and Juliet and repeat this in front of the class. After I sped through the verse (as fast as I could) he expressed amazement that I could speak so quickly. What he did not know was that if he had not been so open, fun and undestanding of persons fears, I would not have had the nerve to even stand up. To this day I still remember him when ever Romeo and Juliet is mentioned. His laughter, acceptance and love, is what made High School a positive experience to those of us who were lucky enough to know him. Thank you Mr. Ford and your family who blessed us with a wonderful person. Former student: Julie Flores Class of 85

  240. no question about it, tommy ford was overflowing with enthusiasm and charisma. he shared more laughs than any teacher i’ve ever known…pure entertainment! i really used to look forward to seeing him both in class and out of class. he actually made going to school a pleasure. he has been and always will be one of the teachers that forever stand out in people minds. i can’t imagine clark will ever be the same place without his presence.

  241. I never had the pleasure of having Mr. Ford as a Teacher. But I did have the pleasure of his friendship. I was introduced to him by friends and he always made sure that he said hi when I walked by or offering advice when I needed back then. We will miss you and the joy and wisdom you brought to all our lives. My deepest sympathy to his family and mother. Mr. Ford will be deeply missed. c/o 2000

  242. I keep trying to justify in my head the loss of Mr. Ford. I reflect back to my high school past, and I can honestly say I can not remember anyone else with exception of Mr. Ford who impacted me in such a way. Its a painful feeling when people with such integrity depart us here on Earth. Mr. Ford, I will never forget you. RIP

  243. RIP Mr. Ford. You were my favorite teacher and made me laugh back when life sucked (1986-1987). I always looked forward to your class. Tennessee.

  244. Mr. Ford was the most amazing and funniest teacher that would ever be at clark high school. I used to go to his class every day for the four years i was at clark. He was the happiest teacher i gave ever met. I always remember his laugh the halls would be so quite and as he in the halls or class you could hear him laughing. I was crashed that he passed away but i know God brought him back home to be with him. He had serviced a good purpose here on earth. Thank you for allowing me to have one of the greatest teachers ever. #ripmrtommyford #foreverinourhears

  245. When I think back to my high school days, Mr. Ford is one of those memories. It makes me sad to know that he isn’t with us anymore. I know it’s been a while, but he was an icon. His boisterous laugh and overjoyed demeanor made him the highlight of our days as we begrudgingly walked the hallways of Tom C. Clark! I still refer to Tootsie rolls as “SOUL ROLLS”. I still remember his routine greeting “Hey Bud!” as we either passed or entered his classroom. He was always happy, never in a bad mood. He was awesome and we were motivated to pay attention in class because of his bright entertaining mannerisms. Those of us who knew Mr. Ford were indeed blessed. Rest in Peace man!

    Class of 1994

  246. I never had Mr. Ford as a teacher but I would always see him in the hallway during passing period. He didn’t even know who I was when one day he asked me if I wanted a Soul Roll. I was a freshman in high school and fairly new to San Antonio at the time. I have remembered that small gesture ever since then. He had the greatest smile and welcomed me to Clark when the world was so new.

Thanks for the Soul Rolls, Mr. Ford. Your positive energy touched my life.

  247. The souls rolls. The laugh. The energy . It’s amazing how someone’s positive energy and influence can remain over so many generations. Ford was my teacher as a freshman and in that short time I had him I knew he was a beacon of light . He told us to enjoy our Christmas and new years break and when the break ended and we returned to class ford had left us . I cant imagine what you were feeling then or what you were going through but all I know is I’m sorry this happened ..

  248. I cried; I actually sobbed last night when I discovered Mr. Ford had passed. He was the first teacher I recall who had believed in me. He was genuine and caring. He made a difference in my life. Rest in eternal peace, Mr. Ford.

  249. Mr. Ford was always so funny and positive. He would make fellow students laugh and he truly cared about each student. I am so sad that he is no longer with us physically, but he is with me spiritually (in my heart). I still remember his unique laugh and when we would ask him, what up Mr. Ford? He would reply, “The words up”, and he would laugh his laugh. (reference to an 80’s song). You will be missed, but remembered Mr. Ford.
